I have a P4 2.5 512mb RAM!

p4 2.4 you mean?

And what do you mean by 'turn on', after or before you have logged in, and what operating system.

If using XP (if not download msconfig off google)

start>run>'msconfig'>startup tab

disable everything except msn etc that you know you want.

Anti spyware/virus runs too.

Yes, I used to get this same problem.

I found that by disabling Antivirus & Antispyware boot-up scans, i regained control of my PC a lot faster. Also consider killing things like instant messengers that boot on load, so that you manually load them.

Other than that, try defragmenting your hard disk. You'd be surpised how much it can help.
