Help with getting started with the 2.3 files

Hey


I used to play around with the mir 1.9 server files i have had abit of time out of mir ect and now i want to try build a server from the new 2.3 server files but i cant seem to find any guides on how to get started! i have tried searching with not much luck really.

Can anyone give me some advice on what files to use how to set them up and what to use to edit them and perhaps a decent guide to use the editors!! If you can do this for me your a star *

And do you have any tips / suggestions for me? thanks about the db info. if you read through the post in the release section of the forum and follow it bit by bit its easy even for someone who has never done it before the hardest part is the setup of sql and tbh if you read the guides on how to set up the files the sql will be easy to setup.

Thanks alot koni i have been playing your server from time to time and have enjoyed it i think if u updated the lvlin areas and kits it would make it much more fun as u got lvl 80`s runing around in vipers and FT lolol!! and are you running these files koni? i have experienced mob lag on your server and the host seem to think its sql causing it? has no 1 looked into this as i found it quite annoying and alot of players also do.

I personaly think windows vista is a bit of a joke the amount of resources it uses and its not much differnt to windows xp pro. I am ordering a new pc to hopefully run my server on within the next few weeks so im currenly stuck on my laptop 2 gig ram though but it has vista which is the problem im not sure if i want to run the server on this laptop to start working on it and learning how to adjust things ect or if i should wait.

However i am probly going to give it a try to set it up on my laptop with vista but i think i might try fnd a download link to windows server edition and see if the sql causes mob lag.

What OS do you use on the host machine of your server koni?

wrong place to discuss bandet but... the host machine runs xp pro with sql 2000 intel p4 3.06 ghz - 2gig of ram etc , the mob lag is abit of a myth at mo its only started happening since we updated the files to the deaths latest release it was fine before so we are trying to find the cause of the issue - iam not the host of the files my brother is but i have the exact same files on my machine as a backup and use offline and they run on xp home with sql 2005

sql uses resources that td's m2 server could do with as he hasnt thaught about the cpu / ram usage of the m2 and it uses alot compared to 1.9 files so putting sql on another machine will free up valuble resources and will reduce lag but its prob due to mass spawns of mobs with short spawn times and alot of npc's that are re-loading every min or so

SQL 2000 does work but its a bit of a pain in the rear , due to it not really supposed to be compatible with vista basically u need to patch it to the hilt afterwards.

i have the files running on vista with 2005 and its not bad when running server and client on same pc very little LAG.

Hey i have managed to sql 2000 installed on vista how do i patch it as i think this may be the problem im having? and where can i download the patch?

I found 05 to complex couldnt really find any database and stuff

05 is called server management studio now patching is done from microsoft

Security patch for sp2


this page has 4 service packs on it for sql server 2000
sql service packs upto 4

i have tried useing swl 2005 with no luck at all i dont have the first clue where to start with it its nothing like 2000 and there are no guides on how to use it to setup TD`s files with it!!!

So i am stuck on what to do now

and i believe
m2server 12/08
thats the date of all the extes for server you require.
with our release in m2server folder i included a few client exes that are read by !setup.txt they all work for connection to the game try any one by copy and pasting them to thye main client folder
