Just got back from uni and found out my dad buggered up the nice home network i set up b4 i left, so my sister hasnt had internet access and printer sharing has gone outta the window. i play around with the system for 10mins and get it all back but when my dad uses the ICS host pc for work he gets blue screen and restarts, cutting me and my sister off hte net.. i was doin somethin so was kinda pissed off. i try go back online when the host has restarted but im not receiving anything. the host is running win ME :)() and my machine xpPro, i can detect the cable being plugged in and my machine is sending data but wont receive. sister's pc is the same. the host pc can use the internet with no problems and the ICS popup tells me that its active but only the host is using the connection. the adapters drivers cables etc havent changed.. the only thing thats different is i ran adaware and got rid of 103 bit of spyware.. >.<

why cant my pc find the network and internet connection, but can still see the cable and send data? any suggetions ive played around with ip's gateways and the simple home networking wizards but nothing is fixing it.. >.<
any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

reboot all machines at the same time, and log on, has the host got a firewall? it may be running not allowing your connections.

check the connection, go on every computer and click "Repair this connection". it should repair and all work, if it doesn't then somethings wrong. post back with results.

you using realtek NICs by any chance? update the drivers and also windows update on every pc (if you can) then try it. if not, uninstall the cards and re-install. check all the cables too.

Is there any reason why you cant install 2000/XP on the host?

It will be alot easier then trying to fix what your dad did.

my version of xp isnt legit.. n he isnt happy about putting it on "his" pc.. ive suggested it but he'd wanna put his official full version of ME on it instead. i may en up formatting the host and starting all over, theres nothing valuable on it so wudnt b too bad. just more hassle

i'll install my xp as a last resort.

realtek just released drivers which can be downloaded via Windows Update. my network stopped until i had those drivers so yours may have too. is internet connection sharing allowed? windows XP firewall off?
