How do i run the server on lan

hiya,
i have search the forums and only found routers. But i am not using a router, i am using windows 2000 Server but I am wondering what program do i use on the server to forward ports so i can host my server using my own pc

cant u just put it on ur main pc, the one connected to the internet? cuz then it just works normally

We want are internet server free as posible because are interent server has crap specs

You know when you forward all the necessary ports for hosting a server, then you have to put the ip in the serverfiles, cant u just put the NET ip in the serverfiles instead of the computer ip as well etc.. etc... ? and is it just specified .ini's that the ip's has to go into ??

i know that you have to add the net ip into the ini files but how do i make it forward the ports on the main pc so i can host the server files
