If hes big enough to throw a log at his house then hes big enough to take a smack for it. Suppose he thought it was funny untill he got smacked and went crying home to his mum? He got a slap, big deal, is his nose broke ? jaw ? anything ? If not quit your crying, he'll be fine in the morning.
