cccp is also useful, it has all the most commonly used codecs in one pack

Itunes works fine for me, I swear by cccp too. It is amazing. Plays all the porn you like if that's any incentive.

I had the same problem with my Nvidia6600GT for months, turns out I was missing an SIS VGA driver.

ran fine in one computer, and basically failed in another. I know it goes to peices with certain drivers as well, its a very very temperamental card. I suggest you either do a driver roll-back to some odler drives if you recently updated. Also, check your SisVGA drivers and see if they are up to date. If I can remember the link, ill post it.

http://www.sis.com/support/support_prodid.htm

head there, and agree to the thing at the bottom, it will thenm scan your computer to see if it needs anything and tell you afterwards. It fixed my problem, but this is the first time ive encountered SiS chipset drivers etc, so im entirely unable to help you further if something goes wrong.

But the second I installed the VGA ones, my problems entirely vanished, and my graphics card performs at least 3 times better.
