The earth as we know it, si the only planet we know of thats able to support life and a working eco-system, and its a pretty ****ing perfect system when you consider how intricate it can be.

However do you think it workd perfect and supports life because it was made this way? Or, do you think it became perfect by chance, and thats the reason life was able to happen and exist here.

Neither. It turned out a certain way and life developed later to suit those conditions. If the conditions had been slightly different then life could still develop, but its almost entirely possible that life too would also be slightly different.

Obviously there are extreme conditions where no life could possibly exist whatsoever. For example the conditions on mercury or pluto, but the margin is pretty good.

I thought I would respond to this thread and add the fact that global warmin means the world is getting hotter every year, the irreversible effects definately explain the massive icestorm raping America.

****ing planet is, i suffice to say, significantly awesome, and I reckon somehow rising sealevels will result in a reduced temperature eventually anyway, and it will heal its own problem.

Hmm, no thats not quite how it works. Rising sea levels with melting caps on there own would be responsible for a rise in temperature. This is because as sea levels increase, the total surface area of the sea likely increases. This in turn means theres more water absorbing heat from the sun, and keeping it there. As opposed to being reflected from a giant ice cap.

The problem is currently negated by global dimming, where the gradual 'blackening' of atmospheric particles does two things. Firstly it reflects more light before it can be aborbed, and secondly it keeps any heat thats here in for longer.

I think life can exist in other ecosystems which are completely different to ours, who says they cant? Because life as we know it requires oxygen and so on? Others might not, surely some life can exist based on a different ecosystem, breathing sulfur for example, now humans may not be able to comprehend that, but I certainly think it's possible.

Thats whay im getting at Leo, as the sea level rises, there is a larger body of water, and although it will absorb more heat, it will also be spread over a larger area, with the bonus that it will be dispersed faster. In reality, it probably wont happen like that, and effects with the same impact as global warming have happened in the past, and oucl be happening right now, although due to the focus on "global warming" and the effects its having, they may not even notice that the eary could just be going through a phase of being naturally warmer.

Theres also the complaint/idea that the rising sea temperatures may stem the gulf stream causing an overall drop in north atlantic temperatures, resulting in extreme freezing etc etc. obviously scientist cant predict anything nowadays, as im still waiting for the milenium to bug destroy my electrical equipment, and Birdflu to wipe out my family.

Hell maybe birdflu will kill off enough people to lower our energy consumption resulting in less carbon emissions, cars, a drop in house prices etc etc. If it wipes out its predicted numbers in the UK, say hello to affordable housing again.

That was on discovery channel, some geeks 'actually' worked out how many planets there are, how many galaxies, how many civilisations will survive and how many will die and they came up with **** loads of new civilisations.

I guess, in a couple of billion of years we will find out.

USO or unidenfitied submarine Objects are jsut that, something that is seen on radar, and cannot be identified. When a stealth bomber appears on someone's radar as static, its a UFO, these terms do not relate to aliens, or the like, jsut something that is seen, and cannot be formally identified.

how can you figure out how many galaxies there are?

you cant its impossible so thats a lot of BS, we dont have telescopes powerful enough to look any where near the edge of the universe if their even is one, and even if we could we would be seeing it as it was over a few million years ago atleast.
