In Need of a New AMD MotherBoard Help!!

As the tittle says im in need of a new motherboard for my mates pc somehow i think his pc got a surge from his power cutting out any way to ccut a long story short he got a blue screen (think this means a compnent has messed up) we formatted the pc back to factory defaults ect (as it was braught) the pc works fine how ever we cant install / use and usb devices. meaning he cant take his pc home and install his ADSL modem to use the net so hes o my network untill we get this problem sorted im thinking its the motherboard what do you think? the pc is very unstable how it is atm so we need to get it fixed if you know its the motherboard im going to need advice on finding the best cheapest board. The Board as it is, is a AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ if any one could help i would be very thankfull.

Right Click My Computer > Manage

Then go Event Viewer, see if there are any errors in there , if there are a few or you not sure which is which, you can Right Click on each one and save them . Attach and ill have a look.

ok ill have a look in a min m8`s useing the pc atm thanks for the help b4 maybe i didnt explain bout the usb ports gd enough well basicly u put the modem in the lights n the modem come in but after iv connected it the screen "Now connect your broadband modem and this screen will automaticly disapaer" however it doesnt disapear. as the pc hasnt detected the modem but the lights on the modem are on (non power suply modem) ill post the manage results soon when i get chance ty.

Sounds like the drivers arnt installing properlly, make sure you have the latest ones of the site etc...

tried 3 different adsl modems and drivers tried adding more usb ports onto the mother board they dont work either but the modem lights come on :S

Are you sure you have installed all of your chipset drivers? I'm pretty sure this could be your problem...

Well as its packard bell you run the hidden partition and it restores the pc to how you baught it with everything installed ect so i cant see that be`ing the problem maybe 1 part on the mobo has messed up :S i find it confusing how the lights come on, on the modem when you plug it in and it doesnt detect it :S im very lost perphaps a new mobo would do the job?

First i'd extensively test your mother board, untill you know 100% whats wrong with it, or have even fixed it. Otherwise you might end up wasting £60-100 on a motherboard you didn't even need...

Just a quick thought, remove the graphics card and use the onbaord grx, report back .

well there`s no way im testing his mobo in my pc putting it at risk for my mate id rather him spend money on a new mobo tbh
