In Need Of Some Advice...

righty-ho, im currently at a sixth form, and using a notebook/laptop in sixth form lessons is permitted, so i considered investing in one.

HOWEVER after looking after my mates Apple Mac today, it looked rather tempting to get one, however that was based on looks :P

altho they look goddam sexy, i want to know how they perform, and if they have any major flaws, keep in mind i want this notebook to be for work purpose only, i need ideas of battery life portability etc, i couldnt care less if it can play counter strike or not.

jsut some general information and advice, opinions on a Apple Mac notebook would be really useful thanks

I too use a laptop in FE, and when it came to deciding which one to use I had a number of 'conditions' for the laptop which you might consider too;

1. Battery life capable of almost seven hours (this limited my choice to around 10 laptops)
2. Be lighter than my typical textbook
3. Be compatible with the existing college applications and network (for when I plug it in without authorisation )
4. Work with wifi access points
5. Capable enough to run Office 2k3 and VB6
6. Have a PCMCIA card slot for Vodafone 3G
7. Have ability to turn off features that are not in use (cd, wifi, etc)

The smallest MacBooks I found, failed on points 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7

Look at Sony's VAIO UltraPortable range (TR/TX series)... they're offerings are a lot better than the equivilant Macs. The most annoying thing some of the other laptop owners at college cite is battery life (or rather, lack of).
