I have Virgin internet (WHich i hate), and use a Linksys WRT54GS router.

Past week or two, internet will be fine, normal speeds. Then all of a sudden, it just starts to go really slow, and I mean slow, like 5mins for a page to load.

Been doing it all day today, when I unplug the modem and reconnect it, the speeds are ok for about 2-5mins.

I have just decided to turn the router off, and just go online through the modem, and my speeds are going fine, and have been for about 5mins.

So I gues it could actually be a problem with the router? Its only about 5-6months old. Any ideas how I can check the router, like any settings?

Going to reconnect the router in abit, and see if it is actually that.

Only time my virgin slows down is when ive been downloading gb and gb of movies/games, but thats due to fair use policy, On a note about your router tho, I had exactly the same problems when i used BT home hub, when i reverted back to just a standard modem though everything worked fine.

Skyline.

If your in sheff as it states accross to the left then, you may find that its due to the fact Virgin in sheffield are utter W*****S. There system can't seem to currently handle the 20mb lines that they have instaleld.

I would contact there customer relations if I was you and complain. Oh and by the way never contact the broadband fault line, talk about cheek charging you to tell them theres a fault.

This could be down to you running a faster profile than your home line can handle, in order to stabilise it run a check on the speed your line can handle and get your ISP to set your online profile up accordingly (speaking from experience).

I agree with the posts about Sheffield Virgin Media being ****e. I emailed their broadband support via the contact page on the website, rather than call their rip-off support line. Its taken two weeks to get a reply but
Hi

KANA EMAIL REF: 2582689

Thanks for getting in touch with the Virgin Media Support team.

There is currently a speed issue on the UBR you connect to, this is with
our network techs, fault reference F000441153. The ubr is schedualed for
an upgrade in march.

If there's anything else we can help with, please let us know.

Kind regards,

Nicholas Cotton

So. look forward to March. Though I highly doubt anythin will improve and it's just a stall tactic...btw I'm also on the 4mb service though I'm down the other end of Sheff to u Skyline, so its citywide.

Im pretty much in the near the centre of Sheffield (queens road near the ice rink) and my speeds seem to bottom out every now and then but im not sure if its the router because i can disconnect and reboot it the i get good speeds for about a min then it drops out again but i can still log onto the router.

what's more worrying is that i get the channel unavailable on some stations with is very annoying as they will work for 2 days then be off for the next month. Also been having some channel connection problems with them pixelating and screeching sound VERY annoying when you record a program to get garbage.

AgentSmith i'm about 2 mins away from you lol. On Lancing Road. Virgin Media have Nationwide reliability issues but so do most isp's.

Im not far from the pair of you.

S2 area and about 5min from virgin, might ave to go and set fire to there building. See if the ****e service gets sorted yet lol.

Its been a problem with Virgin ever since they took over from telewest and I thought they had problems. Though not to bothered about it at the mo, stealing my net at the minute. But that is also due to virgin trying to rip me off lol.
