Does anyone have broadband with Sky?

I'm looking for a new cheap ISP, I've got Sky+ HD and am willing to switch my phone rental from BT to Sky, depending on the cost.

I've tried to work out how much it'll cost per month on the site but it's confuzzling me, so would be easier if someone who already has it could explain the charges.

Don't they offer free Broadband?

I'm sure they used to if you have their phone and TV package?

Yeah but according to the website it's only a crappy 2gb monthly usage package?

Ah right, didn't know that.

I just thought it was a free 2mb connection.

The 20mb is on LLU, so if the normal on 2mb is 6mb in speed, then on LLU you should get around 10/12mb

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/tools/exchangechecker.php

Use the above to see what distance you are from your exchange, also Sky are or were offering the unlimited on 6 free months. But you are best speaking to them to get the best deal form them, as I took out the whole package with the TV and got the unlimited for free for 12 month.

LLU is local loop unbundling, the distance is it 1 mile direct or road and you should get around 14mb as well from sky on the unlimited account.

Oh I know! And want to...just can't afford it right now

0.92mi to be exact
They should be able to give you speeds then of around 12mb - 14mb

I'm 0.82 and get just over 14mb

Though waiting for BT to open up the Exchange for FTTC, also know as infinity.

I'm with Virgin and never had a problem with them. Also get constant fast speeds.

No idea on cost though, as it's all paid for through my Step Dads business (I say business, he's just self employed with his mate). Might be worth looking into if you're in a cable area?

lol

Skyline did you know you can get your upload speeds change to almost match the line, it's just that vigin won't as it would kill their network.

I did do originally, but was paying £45pcm as the base rate for the package minus calls made.

I now only pay £25 for tv with Ent & childrens package, with BB on unlimited. Though I do know how to get things offered me when I threaten to leave lol.

its not bad and I know the down is good and always will be, but it's all about the FTTC Network, minimum of 2mb upload. Before I left BT we have a customer that was getting 68mb down and 68mb upload on the FTTC network lol.

FTTC = Fibre to the Cabinate for ppl that dont know. BT calling it infinity, other ISPs can offer this as an FTTC product but its still in the early stages.

The good old Virgin/BT battle is looking good for the next few months with FTTC and Virgin offering 100meg by xmas (home users). All good for us the end user, means faster internet. (Tai move house hehe :P)
