Item upgrading

So is item upgrading worth it? and at what point do you stop and start again with new level obtained gear.

Example:

I have a mc0-5 / fire+1 / lightning+1 serpent ring level 3

Now this ring is awesome for my fire build, but should I now be looking at buying an Opal Ring and adding fire to that costing about 700k which I could fund from selling the serpent ring or do I just keep upgrading the serpent ring??

Depends on how much money you want to sink into upgrades.

Upgrading is always worth, as long as you get the best out of your items.

I have had my 2 Bands of Sorcery both Mc 1-5 +elements and pickup range for ages.
I could refine and make opal rings, but it would cost a lot for very little gains, when I could use the same money on multiple other upgrades.

Generally I buy a less pricey item, with added base stats and mod it from there.

I’m only upgrading items I get hunting. For example I won’t be getting bronze gauntlets where I hunt, so I don’t look into upgrading, but I’m cheap.
