Just after a bit of advice really...

I leave my computer on 24/7, mainly due to lazyness... how bad will it actually effect the computer?

Every so often when I turn the computer on I get some annoying woman shouting "CPU FAN FAIL" but then it just has to sit for a bit and everything's ok.

Should I be turning my pc off at night? Will it really cause any problems other than eating my electric bill?

The main thing I'm worried about is that it's quite a high end pc (AMD 4800+ X2), and I don't want to screw it up lol.

Personally I'd be worried too about that error, if your CPU fan stops working, your processor is at risk of frying itself. This shouldn't happen, because there are fail safe systems in place to stop this, but if I was you I wouldn't want to risk that chip...

Aurons given you some good advise, I'd use it :)

Sigh, use hibernation, if just for your electricity bill.

Hibernate will save the conents of your RAM to disk, allowing you to pick up where you left off when you turn the power back on.

Also, if you're getting CPU FAN FAIL being screamed at you - get a better fan?

Pfft don't you sigh at me :p I showed you dragonforce =|

I used to use hibernate, but that's like 4 odd keystokes, turning the monitor off is just one (H). Ok, ok... I'll do it if it helps though.

I thought about getting a fan, but my rpm is fine and my temps are dandy... it's just when it's booting it seems... it doesn't really bother me other than I forget to turn the volume down and you know how loud my volume is.

I might replace it but I would want to order more than just a new fan, I would have to go get a blue orb which means I've gotta get more thermal jizz and play with my CPU =(.

Come round Auron?

My system randomly gives me the CPU fan not working error at bootup. Fan has been working fine though, so i just ignore it.

Fool of a boy! Remap the power button to Hibernate :P

Simply: If it's saying something that isn't true - SOMETHING IS WRONG. These things don't stop working for no reason. I'd strongly consider you try plugging the fan into a different socket, at least.

I'll come round - to your house ;)

Only times i leave my computer on overnight is when im either downloading or doing something which is easier to do while im asleep rather than slowing my comp up when i need it most.

Does'nt require much effort to turn a pc on and off now does it... Lets be honest.

If its also going to prolong the life out of computer hardware then you might aswell make that small effort every night to turn it off befor you go to bed.
