Hey guys

Is it worth it?

Mostly will be used for gaming and bits and pieces there etc, but also for me to try Mir servers.

Is this a good idea?

On a virtual machine, I'm quite restricted when it comes to fun stuff lol

I think what Omni is asking is if it is worth him upgrading to a new laptop with Windows 10 or not.

I'd presume he's wondering if the game runs ok on Windows 10?

Are you a mac user, using a VM to play mir?
If not, what the hell are you using?

Yes. Mac.

However I want to use Windows 10 or 11 personally. I use it at Work and want to use Windows 10 freely with no restrictions etc.

No one likes mac users, end of.

What sort of budget you looking at? Is it just for Mir ?
I'm looking for one for Mir. Max of £200 or under.

Will be used for other stuff too like SDL.

Maybe try local selling pages on things like facebook to see if you can buy second hand. Shouldn’t need anything too wild to get Mir to run.

In fairness, you can get a laptop that runs mir for under £200 quite easily second hand on eBay. Anything from the last 8 years or so will run mir perfectly fine.

check eBay/Facebook and see what comes up locally. tbh I brought a broken laptop on ebay and fixed it... would have cost £1800+ new, think I spent no more than 600 on it.

I may as well include a question I've had for quite a while within this thread:

Does anyone know why it's so difficult to run between like 8-12 mir clients?

I'm not currently playing a server but I was playing one over Xmas and whenever I started to get to around the 10 ish mark client wise the lack of performance was crazy.

I even made sure to run all of the clients I intended on using as alts on the lowest possible resolution as well as making sure max fps was ticked.

My CPU would pop up that usage is high but is there a further setting I should be aware of where mir doesn't use all of the cores within the CPU?

Now I understand it probably seems silly to expect the performance to be the same compared to having just one client open but I feel like my machine should be capable of this:

Maybe it's just to do with how the game was designed to run considering it's obviously quite old but I just wondered if I've been missing something fairly obvious that would help with the performance whilst having a lot of clients open.

I'm not certain but I dont think the client was made with the intention of running 10+ instances simultaneously 😅

I completely agree, I'm just wondering why it's not really possible to do.
