spec is far more than plenty to be hosting a mir server. What sort of server you making? eg rates / files.

Don't know how much it takes to host a mir server, but will 1.5mb upload be enough to host it? I'm sure it will with a few players, but if it gets popular then I think you may have a problem and would have to consider looking at a dedicated server. Imo its a waste to have that machine! Such overkill.

But yeah, look at Furian. They had to upgrade to a dedi because after the owner treated himself to 50mb virgin courtesy of the donations, realising it didn't really do too greatly, a dedicated server is the way to go.

Having said that, some ISP's give ridiculously good upload speeds - Virgin isn't one.

However, I can't say I know how much it takes to upload a server; but I'm almost certain that if your servers gets popular, your internet will struggle. That, and, l o l, Virgin's fair usage plan is a *****. I'm constantly getting throttled, although, I'm also fairly confident 50MB users avoid fair usage - so you'll be alright!

I strongly recommend a dedicated server for game hosting as i tried to do it from a home PC and epically failed the upload speeds are just not good enough

@Shaba it was 100mb lol and it wasn't courtesy of donations it was courtesy of my wage.

The host machine it self is fine but why would you need a 2TB Hard drive & 2GB Graphics Card on a host machine is beyond me and a waiste, and at the moment i doubt your get too many users that your net wouldn't be able to cope with, but a dedi is what everyone would recommend as they are known to be more reliable saying that i don't see the harm in trying to host the server at home and with a low user base it should be just fine and more cost effective. My advice would be to run an open beta test for a few days and stress test it.

Not all server creators can/will pay for a dedicated server. People like this should be hailed for wanting to offer there own line to host someone else's server. I know its old school now, but this is better than nothing :')

But in all honesty would you trust a total server with your server files that uve worked on for months? i know i wouldn't.

1.5 upload would hold 100 users easy aslong as local machines wasnt abusing it aswell. and lol you could host 4 servers on that spec machine!!!

The machine and connection are fine, the reason they struggle is because people piss about on them while there running. I have no doubt that everyone these days is always downloading something while the server is running, which is why the connection struggles, learn to leave the downloading to off peak hours and it should be fine.

tbh, I honestly wouldn't care if someone nicked my files, if I was ever going to make one and let someone host, I would plant my signature all over the damn place to show that it's my work and not theirs to ensure nothing is nicked.

Its always best to send a host some fake files before sending your work to them, this way once its all online and the host doesnt suddenly get cut off and never seen again you can just send across your work! in most cases this would work. i dont like the idea this guy doesnt know how to setup a set of files. always leads to trouble trusting people with no previous hosting skills and rep for people to go by.
