It sounds like that because of the cams, there clearly high lift and duration. Gives you a lumpy idle.

You guys obviously not tuned/messed around with cars and engines?

Agreed is still an ugly car but imo sounds good. Not a fan of american muscle myself but the chevy big blocks do sound sooo nice.

I'm a japanese car man myself, sorry.

Dk

Did a fair amount of work on my old Focus RS, so I know these things fairly well.

Impressive work but the way it sounds just ruins it.

<- Also not a fan of muscle cars.

They don't sound nice at all... Can I ask the amount of cylinders the car is using?? Cause its not running very smooth at all. I understand the basics of engines and cant really see where
increasing the height the cams would be an advantage..

the idle strokes are these aren't they???

induction
compression
power
exhaust

Like I say, I'm still a noobie, so anything you say can only educate me :)

Idle as in tick-over. Cams are openning the intake and exhaust valves for longer, allowing more fuel and air to get into the engine and allow more exhaust gas out.

It runs like that because of the cams, its what is known as a lumpy idle. Its the trade of for using high lift cams, its all about the tuning, its hard to get timing and fueling right at idle with these types of cams as the engine cannot idle smoothly.

BUT if your a good tuner (like my self :001_tt2:) you can normally get it quite smooth. That engine is obvs running on carbs so is alot harder imo to get the idle right.

Its probs a V8 and is deffinately running on all cylinders.

Ah ok, well then you know about valve overlap and thats why the car sounds like that?

What did you do to your RS if you dont mind me asking?
Had escort and fiesta RS's in my younger days lol.

Valve overlap is the period at which the inlet and exhaust valve are open at the same time. That way you let more air in and let more exhaust fumes out :) I think.

lol Americans cant make cars...
Are you for real or what - For starters the Dodge Viper SRT10 is 100% American.

Then their is the Ford Shelby GT 500, one of Americas most prestigious cars.

Not forgetting the Ford Mustang.

Which does bring me to Ford, seeing as a good % of the UK drive them.

Nice one on searching google lol, that is essentially what overlap is but doesn't really say why you would want it lol.

Because its old, same reason we used to use inches and feet...
