Map Making - Atrrib Marks

Okay I did a search and nothing came up with water I needed, so here goes:

Could somebody please tell me exactly what the yellow, orange and red attrib markers do please? Also, I want to know how to fill a specific area (like the top of a cliff) with a certain attribute.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, because after I know this I can start hosting my maps.

Orange means you cannot walk there or spawns mobs there.
