Mcafee Internet Security 2006

Well, i re-installed it earlier as i have decided to start using it again. It seems to be fine, accept one slight problem.

The problem is that the Mcafee Security Center is blank, there is nothing in it. Here is a screenshot of the problem:

I am wondering if anyone has had this problem, and has managed to solve it?

Try a fresh install mate, i used to have it and it was ver tempremental.

I have installed 3 times now I saw a few fix's over the net, using google, and leocrasher :P But none have worked =/

I've never had any problems with the program. that error looks a bit
mysterious, if it helps I'm running it on XP.

I'd recommend using a different internet solution if you continue to
get that problem.

I am also running it on windows XP

I was thinking of formating my pc again because Mcafee worked 100% fine a couple of months ago when i last used it, although i would rather not though because i dont like having to install sp2,drivers and everything -_- :P

I have had a browse about for a different security package, and i have had some suggested to me. So far, i have been looking at ZoneAlarm Security suite & BitDefender. I was also thinking of geting nod32 virus scanner, with zonealarm firewall. Cant make my mind up -_-

ZoneAlarm and Norton....

A simple NO to both of them will do.

Kaspersky internet security suite.

I like Kaspersky anti virus, i may try the internet security.

But, it seems mcafee is working fine atm, i just cant see the "status" via mcaffe security center, i have to use windows security center :P

unless you have some big and important data stored on ya pc dont bother with any installed virus/firewall software, especially not the commercial stop seems to be worth more hastle then its worth...

just follow some simple rules
dont open any dodgy emails, never download any email attachment unless u know there safe.
if your using your card online try a online virus scanner before u do it,
i find http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ to be good

look for the tell tale signs of virus's such as your net home page being something else, new icons and tray and virus alerts telling you to buy a certain type of software..

if your using p2p programmes read up on them first

your system restore is a life saver

all in all my advise i dont use firewall/av and never been hacked and hardly ever have virus

Well, the last time i disabled my firewall for one day (while back) i had loads of tojans and that get themselves on my computer

I may however just use windows firewall, and mayb AVG free anti virus, or not one at all now because mcafee seems to be ok, but at times, my pc crashes (and it never used to). =/

I may do without AV protection,but i shall certainly be using a firewall still.

A firewall is a MUST.

Windows firewall does the job just as good as any other firewall will do.

the windows firewall is better than NO software firewall but worse than most software firewalls, you may as well install something better even if its something free like zone alarm

Aye, windows firewalls isnt very secure

I have just setup Symantec Client Security, and so far so good seems to do the job just fine without effecting my computers performance "touch wood" :P

IMO. a firewall isn't something that should be limiting outgoing connections, but incomming. If the user has any common sense, and doesn't go downloading every single advertised smiley package, notavirus.exe and the ub0r program that will make your 386 run like a core 2 duo E6700.. you won't need any third party firewalls and the windows firewall will do it's job perfectly, however if you do, even the third party firewalls won't help you.

As much as this debacle is interesting, its completely worthless. Everytime someone gives help it should be applied to the case at hand.

Yes security suites are for idiots, and it just so happens that Ash is Joe Internet Idiot (JII). Therefore it would be just plain wrong to suggest to him that a solution which works for us power users, would give him ample protection.

Ash NEEDS an application firewall aswell as an internet one. Which is why something like a security suite is best suited for him. Personally I don't have a single firewall on my Windows machines. I leave it upto my router to shield moi. But when I do use a firewall, I use CoreForce.

Remember, simple protection is only as good as the user behind it. Otherwise something a little more sophisticated and nannying is needed.

But i did suggest a great internet security suite to Ash (kaspersky). I was actually questioning Fire's and Ashes post where they said that windows firewall isn't secure.
