Monitor power button says its on, but the screen is black

As in title, when i turn my monitor on the power button is green indicating that its on, but the screen is black and not on. Is there any way to fix this or am i going to have to buy a new monitor? =/

firstly do you have another computer to test the monitor on? also do you have another monitor cable you can test going to your pc? probably best to narrow down that there is actualy something wrong with the monitor before you go and buy a new one, if could even be a graphics problem, does the monitor not display anything? not even before booting up to windows?

my guess would be that it could be a problem with your monitor cable as the mintor turns on with a green light.

well it used to turn on for like a second or 2 then go off ( with the power button still on ) and i'd have to keep turning it on and off until the screen accualy stayed on, once it was on it had no problems... but now the monitor just wont turn on at all.

so there's no power getting to the monitor? have you tried wiggling the power cable,could be a loose connection, my monitor has a loose connection for the power and i have to push the connection in and wiggle i about to get it working sometimes

yeah ive unplugged and replugged everything... grr sucks. =/
Ahh well, im in need of a new computer anyway i had to constantly delete stuff as it only had 33GB hard drive >.< lol.
