Hi. I know this is a common issue, but I've read every thread I could find on it and not found a solution that works for me.

I've got a server up and running, but I can't seem to make a client work. I've closed down everything and made a shortcut, tried copying the Mir.dat file and making into Mir.exe file, tried downloading a new Mir.exe file - all run without any other windows direct from desktop. Tried alt+tab and back also every time - NOTHING seems to work.

Every time I just get the multicolour mess of a screen. I'd be very grateful for anyone who can help me sort this.

PS: I think I had the server working on this same computer at one time including the client. I'm technically profficient but not what you'd call an expert.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Edit: To clarify, I've tried loads of different Mir.exe files, from various sources, none have worked. I've also tried the client without any server connected and it's still just a splodge.

You probably need to get a new interface.

is this one of those 16-bit or 32-bit color issue?
play with your display properties.

This is a 8-bit color pallet issue that I had many a years ago, I don’t think my post is around anymore… But I think I remember something I did to stop it :-

One, make sure all non-need windows are closed down,

Then drag all your sever window into the top left corner, try not you go off-screen (may cause DX clipping and focus will be set back to windows)… try to keep them within 0,0, 800,600….

Or try setting desktop to 800,600,8bd

Hope it helps, haven’t had this problem for ages, so cant remember how to fix it

Wow, lot of replies fast. Some really helpful people here - cheers guys.

I've tried playing with display settings I think, don't remember it helping much. Using a 600 x 800 desktop already and tried both 16bit and 32bit display modes, even tried the 'run in x colours mode' things. Never had any luck.

Gonna try with a clean client folder I think. Maybe I had some corrupted or too modern .wix file in my data folder. Gonna get the whole thing again.

PS: I invented instancing for Mir, someone go try it out! :P lol.

Well I'll try and find a decent download link (this was from Fernys) and try it all again, then I'll post back.

Edit: PS: This isn't just a multicolour issue, the bits of screen I can make out are completely all over the place. Like server select buttons in bottom right corner etc. Dunno if that's of any significance?

Tried a fresh install and still getting the same thing. Unless anyone has any fresh ideas or more info on the colour compatibility thing I'm just gonna give up.

Tried everything it seems. So frustrating too -- I'd love to tinker with a server and see just what the client scripting engine can manage. (Lol see some examples of my random ideas in the Mir2 chat forum).

Thanks a lot for the help all of you guys. People here really are helpful. But unless anyone has any more ideas or specific ideas on any... Looks like I just can't get private servers. :( On this PC at least.

Ghey thing is I once had them working too pretty well.

You have probably tried but,

I had a mate that installed a fresh client, then downloaded a sever patch (graphic files) this cause Mulit coulrs. I have also reproduced this by placing 1.4 files into my 1.9 (think that’s how I did it.was a while ago). So make sure if it’s a 1.4 client your using old 1.4 graphic files and 1.9 client, 1.9 graphic files… All big guesses

(LOL, after my first suggestion I got multi coulor my self, dragged all my sever windows into 800,600 and fixed it – but I can see that not your problem)
