Multiple hosts on a single domain

I've had a brief look in to this and can't really find a clear cut answer to what i need.

I have a single domain name, and i want this to link to 2 different hosts via different sub domains.

so http://host1.farril.com points to my local server (hosted in my premises)
and http://host2.farril.com points to my paid hosting service.

so if i link to a file via http://host1.farril.com/mirporn.rar it would read off my local machine and not my paid host.

i've never really used sub domains properly, however wasn't sure if they were just a replacement for the folder path.

is this possible?

Never had a look into this tbh but it sounds interesting, check your CP in your service provider, it's nothing you can do yourself afaik (unless it's in your CP).

Only thing I can think of is a masked sub-domain, not sure how that would pan out for you though.

Create an "A Record" pointing to your home IP address.

Depending on how your domain is setup it will either be the domain register or hosting control panel.

Adding the A record worked on one of my domains (currently i just set a sub domain to forward to my internal ip)

However, the domain i actually want to use it on is currently attached to a nameserver for the paid hosting i use, which for some reason means i cant access the DNS manager to add an A record to it. I'm using godaddy as my domain provider.

Any thoughts on how i use both a nameserver and an A record?
