seeing as though my computer can only hold one hard drive (at the moment iv got a 320gb hdd) and ive got alot of music, i was wondering if it would be logical and safe to move all my music to a seperate external harddrive which contained nothing else.

would steaming all my music off an external hard drive cause any problem?
and would it be safe storing everything on there?

ive had problems with previous hard drives turning my data corrupt.

You shouldn't have any problems at all, i store all my music and films etc all on my external.

Although my old external did pack in on me, so i keep a backup of all my music in a few other places too.

i run all my music and films through windows media player, which obviously keeps a list of its library. Will any of that see any problems putting on another hard drive? such as not detecting the library, or having to add it every time my computer is switched on?

Saving onto external is fine and shouldn't really cause to may problems from streaming, though if you are accessing a lot of things from your main drive yo may notice slight skip in tracks.

The best way to overcome this, is by purchasing a net server. Or a net server hard drive, the reason for this. Is the net server hard drive use's network entry for accessing the information on the drive and will run as fast as what your network is.

Where as with USB drive they will only run at 450mb over data transfer and relies on not having much else running on the process.

It's all about cost and best solution.

IMO firewire is a lot less expensive, a lot more versatile and a lot more effective than an external HDD with a LAN port. Especially when the contents needs to be accessed from only one computer at one particular time.

i have an esata port on my pc, and the new seagate external harddrives all come with esata.
