you guys and girls ever thought of useing sata hard drive ??? just a question if not y and was your views on it ??
well its a waste, it really is, because do HDs reach 100/133mb a second? No!, which is what normal ATA controllers are capable of offering, its only when hard drives start pulling 100MB/s+ speeds which they dont, more like 60mbs write speeds, why bother with stupid SATA drives which cost more and offer nothing in the way of performance, as for 10.000rpm Raptor drives, there a waste too, buy 2x120gb WD's and RAID them and u have urself a raptor drive ass kicker and massive storage space.
i have 3x120gb HD's one being a Maxtor Series 9, one IBM deskstar 180GXP and finally a WD1200JB Special Edition, all of them can come in Sata variations, but cost more and offer 0 performance gains.
all in all sata = waste of time and money, untill hds can use the type of controller speeds they offer.

sata = not a waste off time. I does give a performance increase and a big one!
edit: what i say is not 100% true, its not the sata that causes the preformance increase, but thanks to sata we can have 10.000 RPM HDD's wich is MUCH faster as 7200RPM HDD's

it is a waste of time, RAID is much faster than 10000rpm drives, and 10000rpm Does not offer a great deal in performce.
So what ur saying is, a nice 74gb raptor at about £170 is worth buy over 2 WD1200JB'S (120GB) @ around £110 in Striped RAID, which would nail that poor raptor into the ground?

The problem is that the average computer user has no idea what RAID is, let alone making it work. While SATA HD's is only a different connecter and yes 10.000 RPM does offer alot high performace increase compared to 72.000
raid has been around for stacks of year, and almost every, infact Every motherboard you buy today has raid controllers, not all boards have the option of sata!
and they are both simple to setup.
the performance gain doesnt justify the costs in anyway what so ever.

no, then its a scsi. 10k rpm sata is only in 36gb and 74gb atm
and, almost all new boards today even low priced ones have sata and a lot of boards have sata raid.

Almost every new motherboard has SATA now. And for me the price I paid for my 10.000 RPM HDD was well worth it.

) and boot up and i could install .. didn't need to build anything.I aint on cloud 9 and i am surely not lieing about my specs

and all im saying is PATA is the Same speeds as SATA, and SATA is setup like RAID. and p69 is backup now so im heading on over too there.
Have u ever tried a SATA HDD and compared this to a normal HDD ?? Then u would know wich one is faster
