NAS Hosting

Has anybody used NAS to host a server before? Is it usable / feasible?

Yeah sorry. A friend uses one to host a minecraft server, so I was wondering if the same principles would apply and you could host a mir server off it?

lol it depends on the nas tho mikey
our nas = quad core 3.4ghz e3 cpu, 16gb ram, 15*2tb hdd's in a raid 6, cx4 10gbit network etc
that's more then capable of hosting mir on the side

depends on the OS it uses as well. Most NAS boxes (standard £200 ones for home and SB) use a linux variant and not windows. Which i don't think a mir server runs on. However if you use a NAS that TD suggested (probably windows server based) you wouldn't have an issue (this would be pointless however). NAS boxes are designed to act as online storage devices (its in the name) so tend to have low powered CPUs and huge hard drive spaces. They are not designed for everyday computing tasks like servers.

as minecraft servers are java based they have no issue running on linux.

short answer. just buy / build a low budget server. They will be slightly bigger than a NAS box however you'll get a lot more computing power for a lot less.
