well i've only got 256MB of RAM and it doesn't like Mir lol. i keep getting Low Virtual Memory warning which tends to crash Mir and my entire PC so I've been an googled it and it appears I need more RAM.

how much though?
how much does it cost?
where do i get it from?

lol no you don't.

Virtual Memory is your hard drive paging. Just increase it, nothing to do with actual memory. Love to know where u got that information from.

It can sometimes be ram based and I would say for Mir3 to run nicely you need half a gig - however with ram being so cheap just get 1gig.

Where do I set the placing and size of the page file?
At Control Panel | System | Advanced, click Settings in the “Performance” Section. On the Advanced page of the result, the current total physical size of all page files that may be in existence is shown. Click Change to make settings for the Virtual memory operation. Here you can select any drive partition and set either ‘Custom’; ‘System Managed’ or ‘No page file’; then always click Set before going on to the next partition.

The only thing that really has anything to do with ram, with the virtual memory is the paging. This is to read/write/store information from ram to hard drive, if the paging files is set low on the hard drive then you will get "virtual memory running low"

What this means, is that no matter what the size of your memory. If your hard drive paging is set low and not in conjunction with the Ram, then you will get the message "virtual memory low".

Minimum I would set paging to on a hard drive is 2GB, wether this be for 64MB ram or 2GB.

And a quicker way to access system:

My computer >properties >advanced >performance settings >advanced >virtual memory change.

256 RAM can run mir2 and 3 with no problems at all.. Half a gig off ram to run mir3? you joking chimera? Half a gig off ram can run wow nicely, 256ram can run woool nicely.

Yes i have tryed with my old pc before someone starts arguing.

Id still say you need extra ram, 256mb isnt enough these days, you need to find out what type of ram is compatible with your computer firstly, then check the motherboard specs and see the maximum capacity of ram it can hold. If your happy to order over the internet then I have always used novatech for the past 3 years and never had any trouble with them, some people say they have but at the end of the day its down to you, if you have DDR Ram which i would suspect you do, then your looking at between 20-30 quid per gb ram.

I didn't say you couldn't run mir 3 with 256mb ram I said to run it nicely I've found in my experience you need more.....it will show when you get a lot of activity on screen mostly.....and as Karl pointed out, it's not expensive.

For the record my page file size is set to 4gb with 1gb ddr ram. :)

NB. I found with my wifes PC which is only 1.5ghz it didn't run mir very well with 256mb ram so I stuck in another 512mb and now it's fine - page file size made no difference in her case as it was already set high.

Hope this helps you Tia to come to a decision on things to try or to do :)

alrit well thanks guys i already knew how to get to the virtual memory page but it's been set on System Manged but i will change it manually to a gig then shall i? whats that in numbers? :p

but tbh i do think i need more ram cos my pc is very slow in general a lot of the time and usually if i have mir running then i close every other application anyway..

set minimum value to what is recommended (with xp home) at the base of the settings window and just double it for the maximum - if you are able within the limits of your system

eg: 2000 minimum, 4000 maximum

ive got 768mb on this pc and i can run most games perfectly

Most likely RAM, before you start getting ideas of what ram your going to get, make sure to see if your motherboard can support it.

i know i need a new computer all together and that's second big thing on my list once i have a job (lol) but no atm i cant afford one.

just looked at link also and ugh cant even afford the ram lol...thats kinda expensive... looks like ill have to wait for now..

but anyway i increase the VM to 1-2GB and seems to be ok at the mo
