New Computer.

Hello.....

I guess only Urban and Auron will know anything thing about these but i might aswell stick it here since i cba to find you 2 on msn :P

I need a new graphics card + mother board + CPU (building a new computer), I need some high end stuff but dont really have any idea whats best (numbers confuse me :(), so far ive just been looking at specs and stuff and found a (i think) nice card + mother board (please advise on these) but dont really know much about compatabilty issues and stuff.

Gfx Card -(Sapphire X1800XL 256mb 256bit GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI/VIVO)

Mobo - (Sapphire Pure Innovation Radeon Xpress 200P GRUPER PI-A9RX480 SKT939 PCI-E ATX)

*both of the above in a bundle deal for £399.00*

Cpu 1 - (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ socket 939 Dual Core 2.2Ghz 1Mb and 1Mb Cache)

Or...

Cpu 2 - (AMD (San Diego) Athlon 64bit 4000+ 939pin 1mb L2cache)

I assume the first cpu is best (i would go for an FX but thats just too much money tbh lol).

And fyi, if your going to suggest something else, it must be ATI or AMD 64/FX :P

The rest of the PC will be:

PSU
Case
Sound Card
RAM

Oh and i need a very quiet HD (80-120GB's), no idea what to get tho.

And I'm looking to have it water cooled (no idea what to get for that either).

Well, as far as quiet goes, you can make any HD quiet. Just use velcro.

Seriously, don't use any screws, bolts, etc, just velcro. Works wonders.

Get a SATA2 drive, if you can. One of those 7200.8/.9 jobbies.

For the harddisk, how solid is the 80-120gb limit?

And for the WaterCooling, your best option is a custom system. I wouldn't have a clue how to approach that. I

f you don't care about heat that much, and want a more stress-free cooling solution, try some of the various normal air coolers.

A Zalman on your CPU, an Artic Cooling system on your graphics card, and various low-noise fans around your PC would be adequate cooling, and not require all the maintenance watercooling requires.

Average Watercooling 'kit'.

How much do you want to spend total.

BTW, that PSU isn't that great and the ram you picked is only DRR266 vs the stock DDR400, it's registered (board won't accept it), and you need 2 sticks for dual channel.

As long as I'm not spending over £400 for any one item it doesn't really matter.

And i know even less about RAM than i do about anything else so i just took a guess, suggestions on that please :P

Auron, the HD 80-120GB limit is just because i know I'm not going to be using more space than that (I'm currently on a laptop with 60GB HD and It's only half full tbh, Quality > Quanity here.

HD, Hows that?

2x RAM ?

PSU ?

So far thats just over £1325 total, if it doesn't get much higher than that I'll get the AMD 64 FX :D

With...

CPU (AMD (San Diego) Athlon FX57 939Pin 1mb L2cache)

The price comes to about £1685 total, i would like to keep it under £2000, so don't just suggest the most expensive stuff (I will be upgrading as time goes on, just trying to keep the initial lump sum down :P)

Just so you know what I'm trying to do here is balance performance, noise and temperture, so i need to find a quiet way to keep it cool.

If that is a good solution then I'll try that but if watercooling is going to be even twice as efficent/effective i don't mind having a high maintenace system :P

EDIT: I need a keyboard aswell, I've ordered a Zboard + WoW Keyset already and was looking to get a G15 but can't for the life of me find a website that delivers to the UK.

For my mice I've also ordered a Logitech MX1000 and a G7 (Yea I'm indecisive :P).

And the mousepad and gamepad from http://www.cybersnipa.com/ (had to order on Ebay because lack of UK sites for them :()

All the peripherals don't count towards the total price further up because 1) I've already ordered it all and 2) If its and item under £100 it doesn't count.

The reason i asked about the size limit was because those wonderfully sexy 7200.8/.9's only come in large sizes, and when you get a SATA2 supporting chipset, they become EXTREMELY fast.

How about this memory. It totals up considerably more expensive than the ram you stated, but if you're getting a FX-57......skimping on the memory is like raping a small child with 20 Michael Jackson dolls.

As for PSU, i'd recommend this. I haven't seen many decent modular power supplies, but this one seems to hit all the boxes, and I can't find much wrong with Hiper.

As for the watercooling. Well, it's possible that the watercooling could be far more effective, but the end choice is simple. Your CPU won't notice 5 degrees difference, so long as it says within it's lovely limits. However, YOU will notice having to replace the water, adding additives, checking for bacteria & other nasties, etc. you'll also notice the rather large dent it leaves in your wallet, and the amount of case space it could wind up taking.

Zalman CPU coolers are incredibly efficient, and near-silent. As for the graphics card, depending on what you plan to have in your PCI slots, there are a wide range of options, including mounting a Zalman CPU cooler on your GPU. In terms of effectiveness, it's extremely effective.

Again i stress my point. VELCRO. It's the wonderfully cheap solution to so many * Drive noise problems :P

Edit: Oh yeah, btw, the HD is good. As for the CPU, go Dual-Core. Cheaper than the FX-57 and you'll probably get more from it.

Things to note:

1) This is a kickass system

2) Even though you asked for a 80-120GB I put a 300GB in the cart for two reasons. A) Primarily, this drive is one incredibly fast SOB and B) it's always nice to have the space especially when it's not that much more than a smaller, slower drive.

EDIT

Oh yea, and still room left over for some more cooling on the videocards.

Ok I've ignored most of that, got the AMD X2 4800+, the motherboard and stuff.

But i just brought a 7800 GTX, I may get a 2nd for SLi next month, I'm running out of money atm :P

Ive gone for watercooling, i brought this, because i can? :P.

It came today and I've had a play with it, its fking huge, PSU came aswell today, other stuff should start coming in later this week :)

One thing i need is a high quality keyboard, my Zboard came today and its ok, but its rather....crap when set down against my lovely dual 19" monitors, Cyber snipa mouse mat and MX1000/G7 mouse from logitech

I was looking at the logitech G15 but couldn't find any UK shops that sold them, any suggestions?

Also brought some speakers...These, I picked them up in PC world for about £50 more than on that site but it was an impulse buy so who cares :D

The water cooling kit was a very stupid idea....

And you can't go SLI without ditching one of your monitors.

I'm building 2 computers, the screens wont be linked :)

And if i don't like the water cooling I'll just remove it/buy a new case, no big deal :)
