hi,

ive just put built a new pc using the following:

AMD athlon 3000+
socket 754 AMD mobo (not sure of the name)
2x 512 mb RAM (think 1 is dead -.-)
40 GB HDD
CD DRIVE
300w psu
256mb nvidia Ge Force graphics card (which needs 250W off the psu)

and the it starts running and carries on running.. but the monitor just wont come on, the monitor works fine on my other pc and so does the graphics card. any ideas?? might be lack of watts in psu maybe?

Have you tried clearing the bios?

I need to know what motherboard it is. There should be a brand name and a model somewhere on the board.

i can't get to the BIOS without a monitor, or can i? and all i can see on the mobo is that it is made by Asus

EDIT: vt8327 is also on there.

There is a clear cmos jumper on the motherboard. Disconnect power and switch it over for 10 seconds then switch it back and try the system again.

If that doesn;t work, take everything out of the case and try caseless.

That V is the southbridge, there should be something else on it very distinguishable, like AN8 etc

i cnt find a cmos jumper can only see a cmos battery, ill get a photo.

EDIT- ok ivetaken everything out of the case and only inserted the thing onto the mobo tht i need like, cpu, heatsink, HDD and g card. and a monitor of course, when i switch it on the monitor goes green and the sound says "*something* (cnt member) CPU test." then after about 10 seconds the monitor goes on stand by again. with this set up the HDD did BEEP.

i tried then with the RAM and CD drive in but nothing happens :S, i take the monitor cable out but leave the sound in and the sound plays again, also with this set up the HDD does not beep.

so, do i need a better PSU?

What motherboard do you have, I need to know. If you cannot figure it out, just write down everything that's on the board.

Unplug any power source, take out the battery for 10 seconds and then put it back in.

EDIT

256mb nvidia Ge Force graphics card (which needs 250W off the psu)

There's no AGP videocard that takes 250 watts.

i think the new geforce 7800 gs agp card can use upto 250 watts, and for this card nvidia recomended that u have at least 350W power supply. Might be wrong tho as i dont know much about power supplys. but i am getting a new one for the geforce 7800 agp just to be on the safe side as i have a 300W supply aswell atm.
