i have a corsa 1.0 (3 cylinder) had it 6 months, done 50k.

Lately its being making a lot noise. sounds like the cylinders are working over time.

when i lift the bonnet the engine is vibrating a lot.

the tank with red liquid is now quite below the line, when i got it it was on the line. whats this tank?

the temperate gauge is reading 85c, when i got it it was 80c.

dont wanna take to garage yet if they charge me for looking at it and its nothing i need to worry about.

any thort?s, im a noob with cars.

Got cover with AA/RAC ect?

If so, drive somewhere, pull over and call them out. Say the noise was frightening you so you pulled over as you thought it was going to break down and didn't want to be stuck i nthe middle of the road.

They will look at it for you, and tell you whats wrong... lol.

How's the oil level, have you checked that? If the engine is vibrating it could be low on oil.

Not sure what the tank is you speak of... Could be the brake fluid level?

its a big oval tank, filled with red liquid when seems to have a pipe passed from the engine and is constantly circulating. on the cap it says 'high pressure'

my dad keeps telling me to get roadside cover with greenflag, but its £95 so ive been putting it off.

edit: just got greenflag cover for £8.50 per month incase its actually something serious.

Is it like a ticking noise?

If so your cam chain is on its way to snap m8.. talking £300 for a replacement.

The red fluid is your transmission fluid (used to cool the engine down), u should change it around every 20/30k miles depending on how much u hammer ur car, when are you due a service?

yeah i suppose it does sound like a ticking noise :(

service is due in 7 months. ive had the car 5 months now, the garage i bought it from gave it a service before i bought it.

i took it in 3 times in the first 3 months for different reasons (twice because the clutch was vibrating alot, once because there was this noise)

they seemed to fix them all, but they have all come back (clut vibrates a little but not much now)

the tank will be coolant, with an additive, it should be on or around the line (transmission fluid isnt used to cool an engine!)

engine ticking (knocking sound)
could be Big end bearings, Inlet or Exhuast valves have you checked your oil? the over heating could be caused by a faulty heater or you have no fluid in the radiator.

you need to find yourself a good garage who will charge you cheap, i pay £35 per hour which is good.

EDIT: Liam the cam chain will cause miss fire. not a ticking sound

m8 I've got a corsa and have the same problem..

apparently this fault is very common on corsa's, just google broken cam chain on corsa.

The fella I bought mine off is a mechanic and is going to fit me a new engine cheap'ish, apparently its cheaper to get a new engine put in than it is to get the cam chain sorted coz it fuks the tappets and u have to take all the engine apart etc. (when you took it the garage- I've heard if u put really thick oil in- forget the name- and tighten the tappets or sumit, it takes the noise away for week or two- i know this because I was going to do it to sell it lol)

but dw- my engine has been ticking loud'ish for months, mechanic told me it will last till it gets really really loud- then when it does eventually snap, alls will happen is u will have to pull over. Meant happen every 40,000 miles on corsa's.

the tank will be coolant, with an additive, it should be on or around the line (transmission fluid isnt used to cool an engine!)

Although that isn't its main job.. Its an easy way to put it lol

checked your engine mounts? try giving your engine a good rock backwards and forwards.

That's your engine coolant, you can flush it out yourself, but if you're not confident get a garage to do it or get it serviced, which by the sounds of it, it does need a little service.

summer months now, also a service might help improve this, and you're running low on coolant by the sounds of it.

Hope some of that might help, if it's ticking, you could need you're tappets setting.

Ticking is tappets if its drinking a lot of water use the heating more, turning the heating on will lower the temp.

My misses has a corsa sxi+ on a 06 just before modle change

its FV04.

took it in today, they said it sounds like the timing chain, £350 fix. but as it was empty on oil and low on coolant, they filled those both up and told me to see how it sounds. drove it home and it already sounded better tbh.

leek is nothing serious, apparently they have an overflow pipe so all will do it.

thanks for all your advice.

why you say that? he did it all in front of me. didn't tighten anything up. jus put normal oil in it. wouldn't be of any benefit to him to hide the noise if thats what you mean.

but gonna keep an eye on it, if it does come back ill take it in and get it sorted.
