Valve kicks nVIDIA in the balls by deliberately rendering nVIDIA's FX cards useless whilst trying to run HL2

read up on this here :
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=838630

Also heres a patch to improve water quality to the standard of DX9 on DX8 cards

find the patch for the Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti and up and ATi 9200,9500
http://www.pcgamemods.com/dl/0d5ffd90f3e2cb2b22fcd30a1ae87ff9/HL2DX8ReflectionPatch.rar
to install extract to the hl2/materials folder.

This patch give Nvidia and ati9200/9500 users near DX9 quality water. Real time reflections 0 performance loss and just about the same quality as DX9 water.

Old news and bull**** TBH.

First of of, 24bit is just as nice looking to the human eye as 32bit, and a heck lot less strenuous. Valve decided it's decisions on that, not some crippling BS on Nvidia. Hell, everyone has been buying the newer ATI/Nvidia cards, so it isn't like valve delibertyly did this to Nvidia. If they did it delibertly, they would not have released all the info, hence allowing changes for future games also on future Nvidia chipsets.

And yes, you can tell the difference hence looking at the gate and the bouie thing to the right.

wow, urbanfox you are about as narrow minded as they come, surely you noticed the CS: S deal valve struck with ATi on their 9800 chipsets. Its an obvious case of "you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours" or you could possibly interpret it as ATi sucking Valves dick to get higher scores when benchmarked against nVidia in the HL2 environment. Why would they insist so greatly on 24bit whilst 16bit would allow the older FX series to render the game at least 25% better.

I own both an X800 and a 6800, if im narrowminded then were all damned. You want to talk about sucking dick? Ermmm oh ye Doom 3 and Nvidia.... ;) or did you forget Nvidia bundles more games than ATI does? And there is no CS:S deal, ATI bundled HL2 with the 9600/9800 XT VC's and CS:S comes free with it, like DOD and CS came free with HL1. :whathuh:

As for not going 16 bit, they kept it at 24bit so the game wouldn't look like **** and and still run incredibly good.

How good? Try playing CS:S on a AXP 1800+ 512 of ram and an Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400.

I don't think i'm in a position to argue with you because in all honesty i dont have clue. Never the less, i found the thread and patch very useful for my GeForce FX5200+. Hope someone else puts it to good use ;)

I don't doubt the patches sucess, all I am saying is that is that Nvidia did the same thing with doom 3, so ATI isn't cheapshotting everyone.

the 6800 GT will run it beautifully, you have nothing to worry about :) this only affects the older cards

Thats rather strange, mine works fine (GeForce Fx5200 128mb).

Are you sure they were the latest drivers from nVIDIA.com?
If not here are the drivers for the following operating systems:
Windows XP/2000 - (17.8 MB)
Windows 95/98/Me - (9.2 MB)
(click the 'U.S. English' version)
