Ok little help.

Yesterday i decided to reformat my pc, cos it was buggered lol.

So i put xp disc in ,and restarted pc, but the disc didnt load up, just loaded windows up, so i was like hmmmm.

Rung my dad, he put his mate on, and his mate basically said, try loading it up when pc is loaded, go to install and should say destructive or non destructive, and the destructive is what i need, which will remove all files ect ect.

So i did this, and it didnt say anything about destructive =., so i just installed windows xp again, obviously this just installed xp over the top of my windows xp.

When it was done i loaded up pc, and all was looking great....till i went into program files and all my old files such as mir were still there.

Will it harm the pc if i left it like it is now?


Well i have a format floppy disk, but if i wiped everything off, would i be able to load my windows xp disk up, even tho it does not automatically loa up?

ive never actually formatted my pc myself but i think u have to format the hdd that u have ur os on, then u need to go into BIOS and search around till u find boot from etc, change it to what ever CD drive or etc ur going to put your boot disk into then save and exit then restart ur pc and it should do all the installing thingys then once all is done go back and put the BIOS settings back to what they were.

id advise you not to do ne of this untill some1 that knows what they are talking abt confirms it or tells me im just tlking crap

Well yeah, the floppy formats the hdd im aware, then i need to put the disk in and install it.

I went into settings when it was starting up, and put it to load CD first, but still doesnt load it :S lol

k go in bios (i dont know the way around ur bios coz most probably uve got a diff motherboard 2 me) so like hate said look around in there untill u come accross boot from set em all 2 cd when u exit save changes and when ur pc is startin it should say press a certain button to boot from cdrom press it then u will come accross a setup its all pretty basic from there coz it says press D to delete the partition when it says do u want to do a quick deletion or a long i think it says long one click the long one coz thats better to get everything off if its realy buggy from there set up ur xp

By all means, leave it, you simply installed Windows XP over Windows XP. No harm there, if your PC is working OK now just leave it. Rhis way you get the added bonus of having a fresh copy of XP, and also having all your files still there = Less downloading / Installing.

You didn't format it at all, you simply re-installed the O/S.

If it's "not buggered" then I don't see what your problem is.
