Havent read thread but, since when did pking become greifing? lol

Always has been part of the game. Gone are the days when you pass people and stop for a chat... You either run past, or attack them. Generally depends on weather youve got bigger fish to fry or not.

I would be open to suggestions on how the part of the community who just want to play the game can avoid the griefers?

Thank you for the positive comments :), It is a welcomed change :P.

Sam

You could do as Euro did, and not allow body drop from PK - this way the people who don't want to get killed won't lose out? Clearly they can still die, and be lured on to drop.

Was this really a thing on euro? I remember being pked and loosing a VioletRing and rage quit for 3 days... But then I played pre belts/boots (what ever patch they came in?).

You have to take all aspects of MIR whether you love them or hate them, and deal with it.

If you are hunting in caves to level, take RTs with you, if someone starts trying to PK you or luring on you, just RT and carry on your hunt.
If you are boss hunting, do it in small groups / guilds, this way you have much more protection.

The thing that does annoy me, is how 1 person can ruin a guild hunt somewhere (mainly BDD) - but at the end of the day, its what risk you have by hunting there I guess!

Good Server, Good People (majority anyway) and Decent content (can't wait for 2.0) I think people (including myself) just forget that Sam has other things to do as well sometimes!! (and he even needs breaks!?!?!)

+1 to everything you've said

It wasn't to start with, ut they changed it on official euro. You couldn't drop from body when PK'd (you could still lose items in bag). And you could still lose items when mobs killed you. So people used to tend to lure more. I guess it would lower the moans from people losing things, when getting 1 hitted by warriors etc?

Server is brilliant as is! Its had its bumps, but really enjoying it at the moment
other then the fact the economy is really unbalanced, in terms of a lvl 30 wiz/tao weapon is 5-7m... the equivalent lvl 30 war weapon is 15m+
(kinda annoying when wizz's are the better farmers/boss killers, but nvm :P)

i like this server over all the others because it does have body drops and pvp/pk.
And im sure many will agree thats this is one of the main reasons they play here.

Its gonna be one of them 50/50 things... half the people like pvp.... half the people like pve.

Theres plenty of protection for people from pvp/pk... you have Sz's around shops that never used to be there, shop teleports so you dont get pked running around town, you can rt if lured or attacked ect ect.

I know it can be well annoying and boss fight can be awkward, but thats where guild organization comes into play..... make 2 groups... 1 to kill a boss and 1 group on pvp watch/doorblock, not really brain science.

And on the otherhand... new players should watch witch guilds they join, as joining the wrong guild can get you kos'ed by some people.

ps. i dont ever remember euro turning off body drops...... maybe at the very end after i stopped playing, but i find that highly unlikely

I remember body drops from pk being removed, and if that happened here, i would quit most probably.

Although im very slow this time around so i dont enjoy pking as much as i once did, its still a massive part of the game when the traditional petulant mir arguments break out and each side starts listing what items theyve had from the other in the form of "Ty DSS, Ty mirArm" etc.

Removing that will take a massive aspect of the game that keeps people attracted, and thats the sense of competition.

PK/Pvp was although open world was not intended to be a major part of the game like current users want it to be, it was intented to have harsh consequences for those who chose to be a PKer. The Penal Colonly, the loss of body luck, the curses on weapons. Going red, Shops not dealing with you, Archers. All these things were designed to make Pkers lifes hard, now all you hear is "carebare" if servers are not balanced for PvP, well the game was not balanced for PvP to start with it was balanced for PvE, the reason there is a sabuk wall, and Guild wars is because PvP in Mir is not meant to be 1v1 fights in town ect, its meant to be guild/group. thats why theres the ability to war another guild and also the ability to have Freindly and enemy guilds. I remember Euro when HOMAN guild were the pk guild, I remember getting a group together and invading Penal to kill the AFKers. I remember the shouts in Dead Mines of "Pker @ xxx:xxx" and everyone would go kill them as u didnt curse

All threads on balance on this server are about people wanting to pvp 1 on 1 with other classes and win thats not what MIR was about or designed to do.

Flame if u want, just speaking the truth.

Sam you should be balancing for PvE and Group PvE hunting, not so a particular class can win a fight 1v1. That breaks the game for PvE.

Even Modern MMOs can not balance it for both hence usually theres an added stat and gear designed for PvP (group wise usually). Neverwinter has it, WOW (urgh!) has it, EQ EQ2 has it, EQ:next will have it.

For all those who enjoy pvp there are games dedicated to it, and are f2p, for those who like pve there are other games dedicated to that too, Mir has changed into some gingerhaired love child that doesnt know where it belongs at the moment.

+1 to this

This must have been towards the end?

I left just after they brought in the new GUI and it wasn't then...

i think you will find the original pvp of this game was purly balance on 1v1 no potion fights. (when there was 3 class's)

hence all the old contest room competitions (when you couldnt use either mp or hp potions)

Enable body drop only in places that matter fight for like boss kr/maze /event maps /town screw-around zone . Can't think of any other logical solution atm.

PK is dreadful and glitchy enough as it is on these files (for melee anyway), no need to make it worse by adding to the penalties.

If anything, a tele to a contest room could be added to the signposts (which will obviously tele you to the same map, no matter what province you're in) where people could have a scrap and generally chat and mock about. Would prevent so many people logging off due to no-one to fight or having to resort to random PK in caves (providing that someone can be found in such cave).

People seem to log on, level/do bosses, log off due to nothing else to do. The fights last but one minute, and you'd be lucky to find one going.

You used to get fights at every boss mob on euro, as the KRs weren't such a long non rtable dreadful flinchfest run to reach and recall sets were actually ingame.

Might I add that when you get you character to lvl 40++++, there's really not much you can do on your own, which is what most people level for. Being able to solo something. Which just isn't the case here as mobs are 10 times the amount, have incredibly high HP and the client is so slow that you end up running to the same spot some mob was walking to and get stuck zillions of times trying to run to a KR or something. I'm not saying you can't solo anything, but a couple low lvl bosses and 1 mid level one isn't something I'd level a month for.

Example: I can't solo a KingHog on here with 70DC on a level 43 warrior, as my a.speed is rendered so **** by flinching that I'll just give up and do something else.

I'm really not sure what's wrong with a high level character being able to solo a decent mid boss, providing that enough sunnies have been carried and the kit is good. This is what's making most of the higher lvls quit and sell their characters, they grind grind grind and there's nothing to reap in the end.

The main issue I see here is that once a very valid thread gets flamed, the "staff" just ignores it, even though it may very well be the holy grail as far as this server is concerned. This prevents the server being fixed and people will just carry on getting bored and quitting.

A suggestion could be to increase the FPS cap, so that people can finally enjoy a stutter free game. 100FPS would do, it doesn't matter that the human eye can't compute more than 60FPS, my pc can and the benefits are easily seen. This would make everyone faster and make for a better and more fun overall gameplay.

Then again, if noone shares the same view as me and neither does the staff, it's time to play something else.

FPS Cap is at 60. Even raising it to 100 will make no difference. The entire directx draw engine or whatever is used to blt images on screen need to be recoded in order for a 'smooth' no chop mir. That could take A very long time if Sam is up to the task ;P.

Far as i know, delphi mir works in loops, so the faster the loop can be computed the faster the next one can go through the scheduler. If the fps cap has been applied in a non-intrusive way within the code, it shouldn't really take more than a couple mins to edit it.

[/speculation]

Lets make it a no pk server, and if you get more than 5 mobs on you you become immune to all attacks,
what's that Klause? NEIN KATIE! Ok

for me all pvp should be reserved for wars or special fight maps , not in normal maps/caves . seen a few servers with this and imo was great. i know pvp is part of mir but when the same person continuously attacks you in a hunting area it affects your enjoying the game, hence it becomes grief play.(once or twice a week maybe but 5+ times in a 2-3 hr period takes the piss)

as for stealing mobs i know this is hard to sort, i know before when u hit a mob first even if some 1 attacked it the drop and exp where still ures
but i have noticed a couple of times some 1 has hit after me and got the drop, or they attack you till you tele to steal the mob(this where the no pvp in normal maps comes in)

The GG debate will always rage on with lovers and haters , i will give sam one good point on this , the wooden chests that give GG, a good way to get GG iF u cant afford to buy with real cash down side is you get a very small amount 1-10 , id make it 100 so not to high and mean if you wanted to get a mount ud need 100 chests which would also create a market in tm/trade for them.(this is if u deside to keep the GG in game)

id also only put things like mounts / pickaxes and maybe torches with higher dura , nothing that gives better exp/att pwr or similar as these give who can afford them an unfair advantage over people who cant(before the flames start yes i am one who cant afford to buy GG as im disabled and im on a limited budget)

One last idea would be a map/cave only for lower lvls, i seem to remember a mir had a map for this and it only spawned mobs when a player entered the map so a cave full of mobs no one would kill isnt a problem.

Sam ure doing a great job(for the haters no im not kissing ass) you just need to address the problems and the server will be 9/10 maybe even a 10/10 :)
