PC wont work:( i'm a total noob and need help pls)

Ok sorry for being an idiot but here goes if anyone can help its my sons pc it basically boots up to the screen where it says sorry windows couldnt start properly do you want to start in safe mode and it just crashes at this point . We have done the following

Checked the memory and the hard drive on another pc and they are fine..
re installed windows Xp which has installed ok when system restarts it hangs at that screen ... errr help anyone would be gratefully appreciated as son is using my pc and is driving me mad cos i cant get on and play :(

Hmm mayb a full format then install just windows xp service pack 1?? Im guessing you have installed service pack 2.

If so, install XP service pack one (if you have it avaliable) then try and see what happens because i had a similar problem with my bros PC, it just stayed on the boot screen then crashed. I found out that the problem was service pack 2 when i installed it from disc.

If this works, then download service pack 2 via windows update.

u need to delete partitions and then reinstall full copy of windows not a quick format

or try and boot ur pc in safe mode. while bios is checking for floppy, cdrom or hdd, press F8 a few times, a menu will pop up, and choose Safe Mode...

As theres nothing important on his PC,reinstalled win xp through factory shipped system recovery CD,tried all 3 options but with the same results it hangs at a black screen with a white bar across bottom of screen.

Hmmm, have you done a FULL system format then freshly installed windows XP? Try that, it can solve alot of problems :)

Yes we've done Full format even tried both harddrives from our other 2PCs that work perfectly and still it goes to black screen with a white bar at the bottom.

Wont boot from this CD dunno what i'm wrong!!,on another note removed his harddrive and put it in 1 of the other PCs and it starts up and work fine but when trying harddrives back in his PC we cant get past black screen with white bar across bottom.

But with hd in other PCs we have it works perfectly so surely it cant be the hd.

try opening ur pc, and look at the CPU.

My CPU was wet B4 and I had all sorts of problems (Like a gungy wet)

Its a CPU / Motherboard problem, its obviously not a HDD problem as he said he's tried it in another machine, try a different CPU from another PC and tell us what happens.

Stan
