I remember playing a lot on Euro dragon server back in the day when I was younger and I kinda wanna relive that. I really wanna start up an offline server with just me in it, running around exploring again with infinite hp and all the cool items.

I don't know what version of the game I was playing but this was probably around the year 2003-2005. I remember killing WoomaTaurus, EvilCentipede, Ghoul, and ZumaTaurus. I remember the sword DragonSlayer being like the best sword in the game at the time before I quit. The game looked like this picture:

Is it even possible to relive this? Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to?

Much appreciated :)

Sounds like someone want's to use the original 1.4 files.
Not even sure if these are available/can still run these days?

I'm sure they're knocking around but you'd probably need a VM running XP to get it going. And no support as we haven't used them in forever

They used a program called DBCommander to run - Not sure if you can use something else.
I bet it doesn't run on Windows 10/11 ha
I have managed to get DBCommander to run on W10, But had major issues crashing the windows and trying to find how to open it as if i remember you had to go through Windows Settings to open DBCommander to setup the DB paths

Yeah you had go into ODBC Admin and configure the DB's in there.

'Infinite hp... all the cool items', I guarantee you that would be one day, or at most several days before you'd lose interest. To begin with, only a very few pple can play alone on a server for more than one or two sessions.

I used to play the official mir and later on some private servers from a different time zone (-6 UTC) which meant I was often the only one on game screen the whole night session but that was still much different from playing alone on local server, since you are aware of others in various ways (rank chart, TM has items for sale, etc.).

Unless you are a geek who can run the old files, just use that @meacher mir installer from the links posted by Martyn, or if it shouldn't work, just get the Crystal client with Jev's database.

An idea came to mind, would it make significant difference if you replaced the current maps in the database with those from 2003?

You would pay for it by needing to redo all map coordinates and the cost in labor might be quite high. If you also wanted the interface and panels as they were in those days, you would run into much labor still.

I think in 2003 we still had items descriptions in that field under bag panel, ie, no popup descriptions. If so, that would make the job even more difficult. You would need to limit yourself to the very basic item descriptions, come to it, we somehow managed to have added item stats in those days and that rectangle under the bag panel display was all you had to show all stats.

It's totally doable, swapping the maps over wouldn't be too hard, obviously you'd need to adjust the monster spawn cords alittle, movements and npc locations but I couldn't see that taking very long.

run it all inside a vm, easier.

Could call it retro mir. I believe most folks couldn't tell the difference (that it doesn't run on delphi code).

If GUI was added and res was limited to some minimum or at least not use wide aspect formats (I understand 800x600 is not viable anymore, it was discussed here in the past but I forgot the reason)

Then you would need to figure out what to do with those pop up stats, if those could be changed back to display at the bag bottom. Mind you, I never liked the current stat pop up display, I just live with it. In retrospect, if you needed more stats that wouldn't fit in the bag display, there should have been an option to open an external static panel listing all stats (with the panel opened, you would click on items in turn to show their stats in it). So the bag would only show you the most basic stats with the rest in that panel (no floating bubbles popping under your mouse tip whenever it passes over bag).

But this being retro mir, you wouldn't want the arm length stat listing anyway, would want to keep it basic. Mir2 magic lies in its raw simplicity. Those servers with flashy wings and effects that totally obscure game view (don't see yourself or the boss) try to move mir2 towards the modern MMOs style, away from its roots that actually gave it its appeal and were the reason it survived to this day.

The best way to resurrect this would be to modify the client to support extra frames and use ai to smooth out the transitions of the characters , mobs and spells. Every time i see it now, the lack of frames just makes it appear so laggy.
