for ages now my pc crashes (restarts) randomly. its almost always when im on a game, and hardly ever, if ever, does it when im just on msn/browsing the net.

ive tried anyless anticrash programs, but none seem to help it to stop it from crashing my games.

its almost every 5 minutes it crashes, which gives me time to do nothing.

i have m$ antispyware, and ran that several times.

any ideas to what could be causing it? and some fixes for it? i just want to be able to play my games without it constantly crashing.

Re: programming crashing

Download speedfan, post temperatures here. I think the program is on the sticky.. If not, google it.

"hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file
tortue test ran 0 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings
execution halted"

so your computer just reboots?
goto control panel->system->advanced->startup and recovery->settings

turn off automatically restart

so that when it crashes, it will goto a blue screen of death and stays there.

it doesnt always restart. on most cases the program just closes and throws up the normal xp error. although it seems like its a problem with the game, it happens with any game i play. online, offline, poor quality, good quality.

which is wh im thinking its not the fan or overheating problem, since wouldnt it always shut the pc down in this case?

Well, if the processor or whatever usage is going higher (wich it does when you play a game or anything), then yes the heat grows, and as you said that it doesn't happen when idle, that's why i thought it might be an overheating problem.

i could understand it being that if it reset everytime, but just closing my program wouldnt mean its overheated wld it? i just cleaned my fans, and took the case off for abit of extra cooling but it still does it.

any other suggestions?

right click my computer select properties now select the advanced tab and click Start up & Recovery settings, now take the tick out of automaticaly restart.

now if ur pc has an error it will display the BSOD instead of rebooting maybe the error code on the BSOD will help u sort ur prob

edit: my bad should read all the posts b4 posting :dunce:

is there a specific program that's crashing? or a few? try to locate your dr. watson logs..

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;308538

basically you run "drwtsn32" and look at the log path...
I also have these settings...
number of instructions = 10
number of errors to save = 10
crash dump type = mini
"dump all thread contexts", "append to existing log file", "create crash dump file"

now goto your log directory (mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Kaori\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson)

and open the log "drwtsn32.log"
it should look like

Application exception occurred:
App: C:\Documents and Settings\Kaori\Desktop\mir2server\DBServer\DBSvr.exe (pid=3676)
When: 2003/11/16 @ 23:17:36.083
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

and then somewhere down the lines...

*** WARNING: Unable to verify checksum for C:\Documents and Settings\Kaori\Desktop\mir2server\DBServer\DBSvr.exe
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for C:\Documents and Settings\Kaori\Desktop\mir2server\DBServer\DBSvr.exe
function: DBSvr

so at least you can maybe figure out which exe or dll or whatever is faulty... other than that maybe a microsoft certified DEBUGGER can help you... lol
