You can buy the CPU alone.

My take:

If you are building a socket 775 computer and want quad core, then DON'T BUY IT. Pick up a cheap dual core 6300 and wait until they dramatically come down in price next year. Intel Core 2 Duo's are incredibly powerful CPU's with lots of room for overclocking and still kick ass in multi threaded apps.

Atm I have a Pentium4 2.6Ghz 256kb cache, The quad one has a 8meg cache lolz

I was planning on getting a Dual Core2 2.4Ghz 4meg cache.

Is there a massive difference in the dual core to the quad lol ><

For the average person, NO. Unless you are doing some serious multithreaded apps or have a lot going on at one time (we're talking being accompanied by 4gigs of ram too) then no.

If I were to buy something today, it'd be a dual core. Quad core is too expensive for now.

From the performance tests done, the ammount that the quad core's cost is not worth it. As urban said, get an e6300 and over clock it. I got mine to 3.2ghz with ease :)
