200X200 - 300X300 sounds right, dont do 999X999 like most people who think they are the god of maps, I dont even do ones that size lol, mine ar 100X100 - 500X500

What i was kinda trying to say is.. What kinda map u looking at.. How many mobs u want on it.. How many people guna be playing ur server.. What kind of Story line is it? Are you just wanting a small packed couple of corridor'd walk ways for packed lvling or what??? You haven't been specific atall!

make it 30X30, doesnt mater, if its your first cave, yuor more than likely to **** up 
, just test about ,see how well you can make a cave using different walls. Dependin on ones you use, depends on size, ones liek PSC are huge, so you can make nice big maps, where as OC ones are smaller, so it would take twice aslong, then thiers complex, and non complex joins.
