Question around refining

Hi,

There are 2 parts to this thread, the first is on refining..

I was wondering if there is a general process or if anyone has any guidelines of how this works? I'm getting close to lvl 40 and would like to eventually give this a go but want to avoid spending stupid amounts of money for it to just fail.

Do weapons work differently to items? Also, from what I have read I take it if you want to gem AND refine you're best refining up to 7 and then gemming?

1. Can I refine with shop items alone? Will this work for the first refine only or for all 7?
2. Do the amount of items and their dura count towards the quality of the refine?
3. How many ores is recommended? What dura?
4. Is there a total dura recommended for each refine (+1 to +7)?

OK, so the 2nd part to this thread is regarding money and drops/bosses..

• Which bosses (or 'sub bosses') are possible to kill solo for item drops for refining and cash? (lvl 36-40 warr)
• I assume mining and Oma Lair are the best options for making money?

How the hell does refining work, I've been trying to refine a weapon for a couple days now and broke at least 8 of them and haven't got past +1 SC...

RNG tbh, I have managed to refine a bow to +4 using awful jewelry, well going from +3 to +4 I used worse than the refines before, basically did it to purposely break the weapon and it worked lol

Then other times I have used good jewelry and it has broken first refine. In fact yesterday I tried to refine a 3 slot steel sword, broke it going for +3 and used better jewelry than the first 2 refines... -.-

Let's put this to the test! I am gonna try and refine something using awful jewelry, will post back results

Thing is I can't even get it off + 1 SC, I would understand if I got it to the standard +2 or +3 - considering gems can easily get that.

I've tried all sorts from 5 SpiritPowerNecks, 5 PearlNecks, 5 PlatinumRings, a combination of them <<<, 10 pieces and so on..

If this refine fails I will do glass rings...

Good old glass rings, trying a magestaff myself, using puri 5 ores adding to 45 and 5 platinum necklace :P

Let me know your results - I'm going to try and refine a WMS when I get hold of some BIO and cash.. think I will try with 2 ruby rings to start

I refined a WMS +1 MC with 2x Ruby Rings 2x Life Necklace. It worked first time, broke second time.

Bio does not affect the success rate as far as I know. The bio and the purity amount affects the amount of durability added or decreased on refine.

Can a GM just clarify whether refining has some kind of algorithm based on the items used or whether it's just random?

Seriously I still can't get past +1 SC and i've gone through like 20weapons.

Pretty sure BIO is more important to the refines than just the dura mate.

refining on here seems FUBAR, it was better structured on euro, at least there you could work out some basic recipe that would work every time to get you +1 or 2 or even higher before the luck kicked in and broke everythin.
Personally i think a system similar to mir 3 where weapons lvld and then gave you a chance to refine would be better..

I just read the npc and it says the refine is based on the item level and bio purity. Is SC 17 item equivalent to level 17? Was a little stupid of me trying to get high SC items like platinum rings.

My experience..

WMS - Use Ruby Rings to start then introduce Dbells at higher refines.
Serp Sword - Plat Rings
SSW - Plat Rings then introduce pearl necks at higher refines.

I have made 3 MC9 WMS a +2 SSW and a +3 Serp
All broke going for + again.
I also increase the BIO Quantity/Pura per refine by an X amount based on items dura that I have found works quite well. but certainly not mastered.

I have never lost dura on an item, that perhaps says that I used too good a BIO/Pura

I have broken 2 WMS refines already today, both on first attempt.. not a good start.

first tried 2 ruby rings, second tried 4 ruby rings.
total purity for both was 4x overall dura of weap.

Looks like ruby rings are **** for refining then!

My WMS first refines was 4 Ruby Rings and 2x weapon dura in ore + a P15 on top.
I trust I wasted a lot of P15 but they worked up to +2
