I've been away from mir 2 for a while but I come back every so often. I just wanted to write a quick bit about mir security against hackers and that, to see what we can do.
The main issue with security is that if a method is developed then it will have to written into the client itself, even if the method to protect against hacking is a standalone application that runs alongside the client. The client will have to be modified to simply check the external application has not been closed.
I have thought up a very simple yet powerful method of detecting any modified clients that would consist of an external application and slight modification of the client. The trouble is that whilst I want to share this with you, doing so would make it stupidly easy for any would be hackers as they would know the exact method of how the protection works.
I know there is the issue of hackers possibly being able to break the method used but the idea I have uses a multitude of different methods to stop any hacking attempts. It also uses 128 bit encryption and a constantly updating system meaning unless you know how the key is generated, it is virtually impossible to break. That is the most I will go into this.
I do not run a server and I do not have the source on my computer any more. What I would like to do is work with an established server to test a simple method, if the initial test proves successful maybe go on to develop a full anti-cheat system for that server.
The requests I have of the server wishing to take part is that the person running it is using a self compiled set of server files with the ability to change the code in the client. There are still some obstacles to overcome but working with the server owner and team they should be easy to overcome.
Also this thread is a topic for how we may implement a good security system that can be shared for everyone using mir2 files. Let the ideas flow and lets try and come up with a shareable method of protecting against hacks.
