Right, at the moment my computer sounds a lot like a hair dryer and because it is in my room i cant leave downloads on over night because i cant sleep with the constant buzz of the fan.

So i want to make it as quiet as possible. I would appreciate it if you could tell me what would be required to silence it (new fan etc) and links to the products if at all possible.

That's something i'm doing right now.

Waiting for the cooling for my video card to arrive, that's what makes the most sound.

Post your PC setup as it really depends on what parts you already have.

Also, open up the case and try to figure out what fans make the most noise.

I opened it up and the fan on the cpu is: Heat sink > Fan > Tube. My graphics card only has a heat sink but i dont think it is any of them i think the noise is coming from the power supply.

As far as i know you can't replace the fan inside the PSU easily, need some electrician knowledge or something like that :P... Best bet would be to buy a silent PSU and see if that helps.

Yeh have seen a PSU on komplett which states its silent and has good reviews. I think i will get a new CPU fan aswell, just gonna wait for urban to give a recommendation.

You will need to tell him what CPU you have and what socket it is aswell...

If you have a socked 939 AMD64 i would strongly suggest you buying the 64 Freezer Pro (Arctic Cooling)... Gives perfect temperatures and is rather quiet.

Unless you want to buy water cooling wich is quite expensive..

lol not quite, think he is refferring to the velcro trick which involves using velcro instead of screws.

Well i didn't really think he was reffering to a trick for lap-dancers but i didn't know what the velcro trick was either :P... So basically that also reduces noise? By how much?

Evidently Auron. Where would you stick it because surely if you keep it in the holster its still gonna touch the sides.

Urban: I cant tell which is the worst because the are right next to each other. Not sure what i want to spend so just gimme a recommendationa nd i will see what to do from that.

As for GFX, I need to know what you got to figure out what's compadible. For the chipset a real simple solution is just find a quiet 80mm fan and mount it over the chipset (with the chipset fan being unplugged).
I've done this to several computers and it works great.

An all in one kit is something like the Zalman FB123(92mm).

Is your computer next to any heat source in your room? Sounds stupidly simple I know, but prolonged external heat plays a big part in the internal temps.

Anyway yeah those temps are not good, you've deffo got some bad overheating going on there.. It might also just be that your internal fans have gone bust over time, thus are making a horrible noise whilst not doing their job.

Oh and is your PSU blowing out hot or cold air? I could take a pretty good guess with those readings you gave, but if it is hot air then consider changing the psu before tampering with the cpu :S stock thermal layering (the stuff under the heatsync) can be a ******* to pull out without screwing the pins up.

The air coming out of the cpu fan is by no means cold, but i wouldnt say hot, warm.

Its not making any noise apart from the usual. I wanna replace the cpu fan and the psu becuase they are too noisey anyway.

So urban money isnt a real object atm so if you could provide some links

It was right next to the side of a cabinet but thats it, so i have taken the side off and moved it away so its not being blocked, no great difference tho
