Hey all,

Please accept our sincere apologies for the unexpected down time.

As some of you may be aware we have been receiving heavy DoS attacks and are working the dedicated server company to resolve this asap.

We have no ETA and the company are still working with us as we speak.

The DoS attacks are also targeting our patcher servers which is causing the patchers to receive false data and in some instances do a full tidy up on the client. We urge you to not attempt to patch for the time being.

Once again we are very sorry for the outage and will keep you posted on the forums and facebook about any or all progress made.

Thank you,
Chronicles Development Team

Just change the IP address of the server, then add it to the patcher server so we all get it.

Most DoS attacker doesn't actually monitor it, they leave it to do its job till they get bored...they wouldn't even notice the IP change for ages lol

hmmm... interesting, if they can get in that easy does that not make our accounts vulnerable ?

They are not able to access our files and believe it or not I actually encrypt all of our data :P.

For those who unaware of what DoS is, please read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack

The dedicated server company have confirmed that this was a DDoS attack (distributed denial of service) and came from thousands of IP's across the world... What this means, I am not 100% sure, sounds like a bunch of zombies all got involved.

Agreed, removing the IP and adding a new one should be simple enough task.

This kinda attack is a distributed so will be coming from a botnet, many IP's not one and isn't going to be coming from the culprit themselves lol.

DDOS doesn't gain access to a server, it sends lots of "junk" requests, security isn't compromised, it just affects the end users requests to the server.

by the sounds of this.. NOT anytime soon.. however I would echo Wayne's sentiment, it really is testiment to the server that someone has gone out of their way to do this. I shan't be staying up hoping, this is one to leave for the morning.. however, this might be one for the whole weekend :( Let's hope not, but still there is the rugby to look forward too, especially the French teaching the english that loads of novices are going to get schooled in Gaye Paris :P

most of the dedicated server companies now use protection agaisnt ddos, shame this one doesn't.

who did it probably paid one of those pay to ddos botnets.. like bellum.. they are cheap and get loads of zombies involved. you can plan a 12/24 hour attack for a few buxs

however this only shows how much people are afraid of this server and how well you have worked for it.

let's hope it will end soon and let's hope the company manages to bypass the attackers.

I run a hosting company in Florida, I would advise you to rent a firewall for the server so you can block the attacks yourself. I deal with 2-3 attack a day in our datacenter I normally migrate them off to another pipe and start the blocking process. Most datacenters now days should be able to do this very easily just need to talk with there network admin.

TCP SYN Cookies

Simplest solution to DoS attacks....if the server is capable of handling it of course

Worthing is depressing.
Gezza,

Before you accuse maybe you should have some evidence. There are plenty of servers it could be... Scorps obviously just trying to keep his user count up.

Could be fallen heros, 4heroes, the golden age crew... Y'no it could even be a chinese server! Not bumlicking but to be fair nobody knows who so dont point.
