Slow in-game? Read

If you're slow in-game and you know 100% it's not your ping to the server, as you live either in the UK or very close to france, then you'll probably benefit from reading this.

Firstly, upgrade to windows 7

Then make sure you have Windows Aero themes installed. Make sure at all times when playing Mir, you use a windows aero theme. When recording, make sure windows Aero isn't disabled also for a smooth recording. (This includes streaming)

This will get you to the speed cap of the server set by Samuel. The difference is astounding compared to basic themes.

If after doing this, you are still incredibly slow in-game compared to others, it is most likely outdated hardware (Graphicscard) not being able to cope with the new lighting textures etc this server brings, as I know most of you still have/play on your "Mir computers".

There are of course things you can do to make your connection to the server more stable, but use of 3rd party programs is not recommended unless approved by the Team, else you may get banned. WTFast is a good tool if you live far away from the server and is confirmed usable by Samuel and the team.

Thanks for this, my lifes dream is to get higher than my current 30FPS (8-10FPS in town) so I can actually fight back instead of waiting for the character I'm hovering overs name to light up so I can hit them. I don't think I've ever won a fight due to my frame rate (during combat it drops significantly).

I have 2 laptops which obviously I realise aren't great (only 3.4 on the windows performance score thing) but I also have a desktop PC with a proper graphics card, it is about 5 years old but I get the exact same frame rate on that too.

I have no interest in PvP as I'm such a disadvantage, I'm prepared to buy a new PC if I can buy one for less than £400 which will achieve 60FPS or whatever and allow me to stand a decent chance. Just don't know what I'm looking for in a machine.

Ask Samuel, he's the one who coded how his server works. I'm just here to extensively test things.

I want people to be my speed/speed cap as this creates more fun and even fights. I think Avatar at first intended for the same (thinking it was a specific theme needed, but it's just Aero in general), but was stupid enough to cheat and get banned wanting to yet again be faster than others.

I call it the Mir Speed addiction.

Video shows how ridiculous the difference is, and if Samuel isn't using Windows Aero theme himself, anyone he views could look like they're speed cheating when they're not - people who he has banned could also be legitimate if this was the case.

Is there an how to guide or summin on how to enable this aero theme? I got windows 7 home premium and not a clue about how to enable it

Aero uses your GPU & CPU to render the Windows UI, Basic and Classic use only the CPU.

The vast majority of modern computers will have an alright GPU so you will always want to use Aero. If your GPU is very poor, you'll want to switch to Basic (or classic, preferably) for an increase.

For the best possible performance you'll still want to set your computer's Visual Effects to "Adjust for best performance".

I hate to say I told you so... But, I did recommend people upgraded to windows 7 a while back...

I develop on Windows 7/8 on pretty basic hardware using Aero themes (although I was unaware of the GPU/CPU usage) and I test using the highest and medium resolutions, in windowed mode, using the larger of the ingame interfaces.

This would be the optimal setup as any issues are more likely to be found and fixed.

I'm not trying to be fast as I am on a laptop playing from USA but I found others in America and Canada that skip by me on screen without tweaks. I dl'd fraps to discover the horror of 15- 30 fps when still. And if go through a door my fps drops to single digits at times. Running out of things to try. One laptop is Windows 8 64-bit Intel based. Other is Windows 7-64 AMD. I've hard wired to modem. I've tried various drivers. I've disabled all auto updaters and set everything to max performance, low power savings. Aero theme. GearsofWar theme. Various registry tweaks that helped other games . Nothing has helped.
