Something I always wondered..

Can anybody tell me why CD/DVD drives have a headphone input and a volume control, when neither work?

They both work, (output not input) you can put in a music CD, press the play button on the CD Drive and chuck in a pair of headphones and it should play the cd without using software!

I don't have a play button.. Just volume control and headphone female (to solve any output/input dispute, I will refer to it as female)

Well some have a play button! Maybe yours just automatically plays it? I dunno

It works IF the drive is ALSO connected to a sound device.
