Well i can't think of anything off the top of my head concerning windows 98 except for the generalized guess's you might have a virus etc, but i would heavily recommend upgrading to a newer o/s preferably windows XP, not just as a fix for your problem, but also because of the many benefits and stability that are found with a newer o/s such as XP.

What size are the files your deleting?
I had the same problem when i deleted LOADS at once or very big ones at once.

thy vary from really big to jus small ie 3 bytes, just wot eva i delete it just all stops responding

Run scandisk, you may have harddisk errors. Then run Disk Defragmentor.

If you still keep getting problems, it may be that you have some spyware or a virus on your PC.
