Tips to create a good server.

Short and to the point

Most servers nowadays are being hosted with little or no thought being put into them.

The are either

alpha frozen files
blank files
somewhere in between


Using new things such as deadsons hexed m2servers is a good thing for your server but this alone wont make it great (most servers think this alone will make there server good)

You want to concentrate on making your server as different to the others out there.

if there tons of low lv servers go high lv tons of high lv go somewhere in between.



make your own maps and quests
Also one of the most important things ive seen are "fun" things.

Something to do when a player is not lvling people want a break have nothing to go get bored and leave. keep them entertained and they may stay around alot longer.

Also when advertising for your server on LOMCN make sure you include all the infomation of whats new in your server and make it so that people can see that there are new things and that your server is different.

Also you should deffinitly make lots of map's and quests as all of the best servers that have been out (WhIpLaSh, P69 etc) have all had lots of new maps, places to level etc and they have all been extremly sucessfull.

Also i dont think that you have to pick an inbetween in the exp/level etc as if you want your server to be good it has to be balanced so if you are making a high exp level make sure that the mobs are hard enough so that they can't be killed easily and not so that they die in one hit. And for low level start make the mobs easier but they will still be as hard because of either the level difference or because of the item stats difference.

Also don't be afraid to try new things even if they don't work out (eg Sean was going to do a 14 diferent "clan" thing for his server but realised it would be to big so got rid of it, as did KaNe with his Labrynth server)

Also dont be afraid to try different combinations eg low start high exp low stat items, or high start low exp high items or things like that do what ever appeals to you.

Thats about all i can think of to add to New's post atm if i think of anything else i will edit it in.

You've both really said it all for me...

However, i've still got a few points to add :

1. Know your target. Theres no good in creating a high exp, low stat server that noone wants, get to know what people want beforehand.

2. People get picky. If u don't bring updates out regularly people will eventually get bored and then leave. I've had this situation alot of times.

3. Get a team that specalize in different things. Ie, have a drop/item maker, a hoster, a map maker etc. This way several peoples ideas will be combined.

4.Opinions are opinions - if someone says your server suxs then its their opinion and u can't change it. Ignore all those that insult your server and get on with it.

Dont make your server with the intention of keeping people on it for years. Create it as something YOU want to play.

Having lots of events can be vary bad, people can get hold of items / gold very easy if u hold so many... well depending on wht event u have... Either way, they would get bored of events over and over again, events are meant to be a special happeneing, not a one day thing.

ok im bumping this as its god but its also stickied i have the AlphaFrozenV4 files im willing to give the files or if someone can host ill send over msn for u to host.

I kno the advanced server makers maybe saying alpha frozen files r gay etc?

BUT

people learn take alpha frozen as a way to get to know how to make files which Leo's work you can edit and things and see how things work as it is a ready made server.

I think servers should look professional, make it look as though you put alot of effort and thought into it.

For example npc's.

Just check the new releases section in server help - thats where all new things are released.. the hexed mir server you speak of is getting a bit outdated these days I guess... and it was just an example. In short their just telling you to make use of the new realeases and not get stuck in the past.
