Right basically my torrent downloads never get good speeds, i struggle to get download speeds over 10kb/s on a 1mb BroadBand connection, most of the time not getting any form of download rate at all.

I was wondering if this was something i'm doing wrong? Or whether there is something i can use/do in order to improve the state of my downloads?

By the way i use BitComet - Screenshot:

Try using a non-default port (or make sure the port your using is open properly). That's usually one of the biggest problems!

not gaurentee'd but dont you just check to see what ports your firewalls blocking and allow them open for the programs your using??

well, if your windows firewall is turned on, u can go onto that in your control panel and add new exceptions on the 2nd tab.

For other anti virus/ firewall's suites what ever, there will be settings in there for port exceptions or somet around those lines.

just need to know what ports your torrent downloader is using.

P.s not 100% sure im correct on all of this.

Evil, one of his downloads has 4 peers, and yet its still on 0kb a second.

dont think this is the reason for the slow downloads, i could be wrong though!

it seems his port is ok because it has a green light if it bad and not opened right it would be red like mine... but i always forward my ports to make it green again..

it usually because u dont have enough seeds to connect to or summet like tht cant remmeber to well i always go for the highest and my download speeds always = 30-180 kb

I've never bought any software in my life, and beleive me, i do have a lot of games and movies. Imo it's nearly impossible to get caught.

For some reason i have the same problem as you, but i don't really download any Torrents. Every time i try to it never ever downloads faster than about 4 kb even though i'm on a 2 mbit connection lol.

I'm pretty sure i have a dynaic IP, but yes i hardly ever seed as it completely buggers up my connection and makes my net run extremely slow.

I also have a max upload rate of 5kb/s, could this affect my download speeds?

*EDIT*
Yes i do get speeds of around 150kb/s when downloading from ftp.

Set the upload speed to unlimited, or something like 15.

Any crap you hear about having to have some sort of ratio for speed is BS, however if you don't seed then you run a risk of being put on the naughty lists, although you would have to d/l quite a bit and from the same sources.

Setting the upload speed higher on BitLord does work though, i don't know about Azureus and such though.

i prefer to call it, Unlikely. Rather then nearly impossible, as alot of people get caught with large amounts of fines. As seen quite alot in the paper etc.

But i do have the same problem too, getting 5kb atm wooo!

I assume you two have a possible history of not seeding?

You could be on some lists, and no, contrary to popular belief they are not a myth.

Although if you have a dynamic IP you should be ok.

1) I have a dynamic IP and 2) i hardly ever download torrents (as i've said) and when i do i usually upload about 5 x faster than my downloads download (for some reason). I doubt it could be that.
