Farril is right. www.torrentz.com is the best public torrent search, as it gets the tracker links from a load of other sites (mininova, btmon, mybittorrent, torrentspy, thepiratebay, etc.) - meaning it usually has more peers.

Private trackers are good. Shame I don't have access to any since Demonoid went down.
