This was originally posted to Gilgamesh's very promising upcoming server, DestinyAO.

Just sharing it to see wot people think. (As it's available on a public forum anyway.)

Intro:
These are specialist 'creating' or similar skills. Each character can take up ONE of these tradeskills only, becoming a whatever apprentice. There are a certain number of ranks to each tradeskill, and moving up becomes increasingly harder. In this example I'm using 7 ranks per skill.

Mining
Obviously anyone can mine, but if you do the small quest to become a Miner's Apprentice (finding a few ores), you take it on as your main tradeskill.
Miners (people who have it as their main tradeskill) get special pickaxes. If you are carrying a pickaxe that you shouldn't be able to use and a script spots you, you are fined and the pick is deleted.
The special picks have:
Lvl1 Miner Skill - A.Speed + 1
Lvl2 Miner Skill - A.Speed + 2
Lvl3 Miner Skill - A.Speed + 3
Lvl4 Miner Skill - A.Speed + 4
Lvl5 Miner Skill - A.Speed + 5
Lvl6 Miner Skill - A. Speed + 6
Lvl7 Miner Skill - A. Speed + 8

You can buy picks for an appropiate price if you have enough skill.
The interesting bit - As well as the normal ores (or maybe replacing one... not too common?) We have "BlankOre". Basically, this is a chunk of rock you take back to the MasterMiner to see what you can get out of it.
What you get out of it is random, but also depends heavily on your skill. You're much more likely to get some very nice ore from it at lvl7 mining than at lvl1. And when you open it up, there's a chance of your mining skill increasing. :)
This goes up quite steeply (so lvl7 etc is quite hard to get). Starting at like a 1 in 3 chance of levelup at lvl1 skill, then doubling every time or something.

The other interesting bit.
- Randomly, on cave style maps, "Rock" spawns - this looks like a small section of rocky wall. It doesn't move and obv. doesn't attack, but when you kill it then it triggers a MapQuest script thing.
If you're a miner you get some ores into your bag randomly depending on chance and skill level. These could include special things like "DoubleGoldOre" or something that fetch really high prices at merchants. So if you have the mining skill, it pays off when you see these (fairly rare) things, because you get free money for it.

Refiner
- This is a bit like officially recognising those who do a lot of refines. Basically, if you go to the RefiningMaster and choose refiner as your tradeskill, then every time you go to do a refine, and you include at least a certain amount+purity of BIO (to stop people cheating to level up the skill) you get a chance of levelling up your refining skill. (Starting at like 1 in 2 at lvl1 and doubling every time?)

The script shouldn't be too hard to do. (I could do it I think). You get a 5% increased chance of success for every level you have. But the fee also increases. Master it (level7) and you get some kind of extra added bonus.

The only way to get (past) level5: Is to do a little Refining Quest - taking a wooden sword and adding 4 DC. The sword is consumed upon success. This is how you gain your 5th rank. The 6th and 7th are just doing refines, although the chance of level up goes down quite sharply.

Tailor:

There are two sides to this skill - a crafting side, and a repairing side.

A tailor is someone who can (attempt to) special repair armour.

You choose your profession as tailor from the TailoringMaster and then you get an extra option on clothes npcs - Tailoring.

Special Repair:
- Under the tailoring menu is a "special repair" option. To attempt a special repair uses up a "thread" which is made from spider webs - rare off spitting spiders, and semi-rare off TreePath spiders.

The Quality of thread needed gets higher as your skill improves. At first you just need basicthread (two spider webs), but then it gets harder and harder.

The tailoring special repair menu would look something like this:

SpecialRepair lvl1 - Requires SimpleThread. 10% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl2 - Requires 2 x SimpleThread. 20% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl3 - Requires CottonThread. 30% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl4 - Requires Cured CottonThread. 40% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl5 - Requires WovenThread. 50% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl6 - Requires CuredCottonThread and Woventhread. 60% success rate.
SpecialRepair lvl7 - Requires MasterThread. 80% success rate.

MasterRepair (lvl7) - Requires 4 x MasterThread. 95% success rate.

Skills are gained by a random chance when doing the special repair level below. The cottons get quite expensive, so you would find people not powerlevelling through the levels, but waiting until people need it doing, and doing it at-cost or similar.

The chance of success doesn't mean like it's got a chance to break your item, but it's the chance of managing a special repair. A random roll is made, and if the specialrepair is successful, the script does a specialrepair. If not, the script does a normalrepair instead.

So at level5 you have a 50% chance of getting your armour specialrepaired and 50% chance of it doing a normal repair.

Obviously you can only do the repairs you have skill for. - But you can choose any one of the ones you do. Eg: You could do any of the repairs lvl1 through 5 if you were level5. People wouldn't always do the best one... The skill gets quite expensive/awkward at the higher end!

MasterRepair can be done by level7s (as well as the normal lvl7 repair). This takes 4x as much thread, and is really only for some SERIOUSLY uber armours - eg. HeavenArmour in real Mir.

Crafting:
- There should be some options to make or enhance armour for each level. Including a TailorRobe at level6 which is pretty nice armour... But like other things - for the crafter only. If you shouldn't have it and script catches you, it's deleted and you're fined.

First non tacky idea i have seen in private mir for a looooooooooooooooooooong long time. I'm sure that would make the game much mroe interesting and give something extra to do other than this crappy rent pets and level reset thing.

lol wow, you just took my idea right out of my head from ages ago. I was going to have it implemented like that. Honestly it would be 'Ace'! :)

I can't stand all these new servers thought. Too much confusion and things all over the place concept. Its messy.

High exp, 1.9 servers.

Don't take it to seriously thought I haven't played them much. From what i've seen thought I like the clean 1.4 style. All the new images and things.. and just going over level 50 and having stats over 90 turns me off.

Nick is very right.... flame me server owners if you like but i feel that all private servers now are rubbish. There are no new ideas, and the attempts at new ideas are very poor.

A server with new things like this would be pretty cool. LOM2 server has a good few ideas, and with Milos and Bhs skills devilsoul has a good potential also.

I think you should take a read through DestinyAO's advertisement in the upcoming section and even have a look at our own forums in the suggestions section, as we are adding vertually every idea we can.

Edit: DestinyAO is not highexp, but it is 1.9.

We shall see ;)

Is messy anything more than standard 1.4? People cry out for new features and new stuff, now they are getting them and they are complaining.

Anyways back on topic please. :)

That is a very good idea, i have always wanted to see something like this ingame such as mining skill, cooking skill and such things, the game RuneScape, i know the graphics suck but the gameplay is rather interesting as you have so many choices of what to do, cook your own food, mine your ore, smith your own weapons/armour, do TONS of quests etc. etc. if that would be with some decent graphics, hell that would pretty much own!

Well yeah. Also it's attempting to inject a little fun, kill some monotony, and give other ways to improve but levels.

A lot of people (I'm guessing) have thought about tradeskills in Mir, but, well... they just don't work. The traditional crafting based approach, no chance.

So this just takes Mining and rewards miners with new picks and, more importantly, better stuff out of mysteryore or whatever it was.

And again, a real need for armour repairing, and that could be done as a skill. I think that would be pretty damn cool actually.

And refining-- of course, those who can refine already can do it pretty well, this is sort of official counterpart to the recipe knowledge.

Anyone intend to add this to a server?
