Install VNC Server to the PC you want to access.
Install VNC viewer to the PC you want to access the other PC from.

Run VNC viewer from the PC you want to access the other PC from, and enter the IP of the PC you want to access.

Viola, your in.

Your reading the wrong address, do what ash said, Start > Run > Cmd and type ipconfig then hit enter. Obviously the computer has to be connected to the internet or you are just gonna keep getting that computers network IP.

Not sure if i have this right as i dont use VNC but if your grandad doesnt have a static IP, you will have to get him to tell you his IP everytime you wish to access his computer from your house. Which knowing old folk is porbably more hassle than its worth.

thats where this magic website can be bookmarked into the browser ^^ www.whatismyip.com you need to put that in the browser of your pc you wish to connect to to get the correct i.p adress to connect to the pc

Right........

Click start (located bottom left of your display)
Move the pointer up three spaces and click on "Run"
Then type cmd
Click "Ok"
Then when a black window pops up type ipconfig
Then press enter, typically located beneathe the back space button

It really cant get any simpler

you should add port 5900 to the exception list on your XP firewall...
or try turning off the firewall for a while.

192.168.1.102 is the ip in that case.
