W32 error/Installer errors

Upgraded to service pack 2 on windows XP home and now seem to have a problem:

When I try to start gates I get a W32 error....nothing more specific than that....
not only that but I can't install any new software, it fails

My CD 3.38 local Mir server was working fine before this and no
changes have been made to the server files since it last worked.
I have checked all the IP's, etc. regardless and it's all fine.

I've run Virus check and adware, etc checkers, also run Hijack this
and corrected faults shown...... I've tried reinstalling the win xp
installer software, no change, any advice?

thought about it but think it's a general PC fault not specific to mir

Solved the installation error - had started to use sky download service, it put a program on my pc called Kontiki, when I removed this installation worked fine again.
