There is another thing that drives things forward - revenge !!!
I played for a fair few months on DragonNet - but i had one failing - i was too vocal in that i kept pointing out bugs etc and had a bit of a laugh with the GM who took it a tad too serious and thus before i knew it I was banned. Now if i was cheating in game (which i was accuesed of like) or pking day and night then fine.
Anyhow - i set out to prove that it was possible to create a better server with the bugs removed and respond (as a GM / admin) to requests such as live stats, ta,e levels etc and add new stuff all the time. So in reality born out of my frustration of on server was another server that was better geared to the people who played it and less geared to the person running it (who after all does not actually play the game).
My point though was thus - imagine your the guys at empire and you see a post like this as well as some daft replys on there thread combined with suddenly dwindling numbers - its no wonder they start to question why they even bothered doing all that work and running one online.
The truth is anything client side can be had from the Updates anyhow - so anything new you add anyhow is going to get downloaded and used by others - only server side stuff remains safe tbh.
